Studio City Neighborhood Council Board Meeting

View this email in your browser

Dear Friends of the Studio City Neighborhood Council:

First, please remember that the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission has been totally destroyed by fire - and everything was lost.  Please give what you can, blankets, baby clothing, canned goods, and of course money.  You can donate at:sanfernandovalleyrescuemission.com.

Remember to VOTE on June 3rd.  These are all important races and these people will be representing most of us. So please read the election materials that we are all receiving.  Take your time to understand who these people are, what do they stand for, and do they represent what you stand for and what you would like to see happen in our City?

All of our Committees are up and running and with our August National Night Out fast approaching, I know that our Public Safety Committee could use a few more members. If you have an interest, please contact our Chair, Brian Pender:bpender@studiocitync.org for more information.

This year, the Outreach committee of the SCNC will again be presenting (with films provided from NBCUniversal) "Movies In The Park,"  so make sure you mark your calendars for:

July 12 - "Pitch Perfect"
July 26 - "Despicable Me 2"
Aug 9   - "Field of Dreams"

All movies are free and it's a wonderfully enjoyable evening under the stars.  If you would like to volunteer for these events, please contact the Chairs of our Outreach Committee:
Lana Shackelford: lshackelford@studiocitync.org or Alex Izbicki: aizbicki@studiocitync.org.

Our next board meeting is Wednesday, May 21, at 7:00 pm.

I'm happy to say that the food for this meeting is being presented by another of our outstanding eateries in Studio City, "Lemonade".

Our social time starts at 6:30pm, so please come and enjoy the delicious foods being presented along with soft drinks and water.  Our meeting is scheduled to begin at 7pm.

Click here for the meeting agenda.

As always, thank you all for your continued support of your Studio City Neighborhood Council.

Sincerely,

John T. Walker, Ph.D.

An Urgent Request: Help the Valley Rescue Mission Dear Friend:

I'm sad to report that early this morning a fire destroyed the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission's emergency shelter, vehicle fleet, clothing warehouse and food pantry. The fire started just before 1 a.m. at a warehouse next to the shelter on Saticoy Street. Thankfully, no one was hurt.

It took more than 130 brave Los Angeles City firefighters to get the fire under control. The damage is devastating to the Mission and the equipment it uses to serve our San Fernando Valley. The fire destroyed the Mission's entire fleet of six trucks and two vans, which provided mobile relief to families in need across the Valley. The trucks also picked up clothing and food donations to stock the Mission's three thrift stores.

This is a tragic setback for the Mission's ongoing work in my district. The Mission provides food, shelter and clothing to thousands of people. It's time for all of us to lend a hand and help in any way we can. The San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission's work is critical to the fabric of our community.
