Kim Vo's Dynamic Duo

It’s always cool to see a talented somebody you knew “way back when” excels and emerges as a leader in his chosen field.  For me, this is the case with celebrity master colorist Kim Vo. Back in the days of West Hollywood’s B2V salon, Vo worked his magic on me by giving my humble mane a radiant blend of auburn and chocolate brown while one of his skilled cutters provided the precision layering needed for both curly and straight styles. I felt as important and as polished as the stars that went through B2V’s doors.

While he’s moved on to open eponymous salons at the Montage Hotels/Resorts in Beverly Hills, Laguna Beach and Las Vegas, it is nice to see that he also has an eye for talent that live up to the standards of elegance he established a decade ago.  I had the privilege to spend a few hours having my hair revitalized by stylist, Mika Fowler and colorist, Toyomi Ishukura.  While Toyomi clearly possesses Vo’s knack for spot-on hair color (even with an easier to maintain single process and much-needed root coverage), Mika performed her signature dry cut on me cleaning up my unruly six-week frizzies.  With the eye and focus of a surgeon, she not only reconciled my too-thick bangs with the rest of my hair but also explained how she would fix the stray short piece to blend more readily into the rest of my still-growing-out tresses.

Although their client list reads like an issue of In Style (Olivia Munn, Annalynne McCord, Emma Roberts, Rosario Dawson, Karina Smirnoff, Ali Fedotowsky), Mika and Toyomi are as personable and attitude free as you would want a reliable cutter and colorist to be. Name recognition aside, like Vo, everybody’s a star in their capable hands.
