The day is November 1st, and it's my official start to the holiday season. To me, November means the jackets and sweaters come out, the red cups appear at Starbucks, and it's the kickoff to my absolute favorite time of the year.
Ordinarily, it also signals the turn from the warm, dry, summer pattern to the wet, mild, winter pattern. Starting in November, the jet stream starts to move more to the south and more of those low pressure systems come closer to our area.
However, the jet stream remains to the north as things stand right now. A large low pressure system is passing to the north, dragging a cold front across northern and central California. Here in southern California, though, the only effect we're seeing is a deepened marine layer, some fog, and maybe some AM drizzle.

As that low pushes east, a high pressure ridge will build in behind it. Northerly offshore flow will develop, and that will kick off a warming trend that will really boost temperatures into the weekend. It won't be a super-strong Santa Ana event like we experienced last weekend, but it could definitely be a little bit breezy.
The breeze, plus lower humidity levels, will also cause some fire weather concerns this weekend. Again, we're not expecting the same critical fire weather event that accompanied the Santa Ana's last weekend, but fire officials will be watching this weekend's forecast closely.

The warming trend should break on Tuesday, and we're expecting cooler temperatures for the latter part of next week.
