Warming Ends Tuesday; Average to Below-Normal Temps Forecast This Weekend

A spike in temperatures has peaked, and progressively cooler temperatures are forecast through the weekend.

It's a battle between high and low pressure that's the cause of all this up-and-down craziness with our weather.  The low that gave us our pleasant weekend has given way to high pressure building out from Colorado, and the clockwise rotation of that air-mass is feeding warm air in from the east.

Unlike previous weeks when the high was centered over New Mexico, the air flow in will be very dry, and that will create elevated fire danger in the interior sections of the state high enough that forecasters are making note of it, although not so severe as to warrant a Red Flag Warning.  This risk is mainly confined to the high deserts and mountains and shouldn't really concern us here in the Valley, but we'll keep an eye on it all the same.

The cooling trend starts Wednesday as forecast highs dip below the century mark.  We'll be slightly cooler each day leading to the weekend as a low pressure trough shifts toward the coast, and we should be below-average again this weekend as onshore flow takes over.

The extended range forecast models show very little change in this back-and-forth weather pattern, so we can definitely expect more hot days and some more cooler days as this last month of Summer plays out.  Fall Equinox is fast approaching and that means Santa Ana winds, wildfire season, and a lot of these roller-coaster temperature trends.

I can't wait.
