Studio City Flight Attendant Helps Kids Reach the North Pole
Across the country, Delta Airlines employees bring the joy of Christmas to underpriveleged children, including at LAX.
A Delta flight attendant from Studio City helped lead underprivilaged children to the North Pole on Dec. 11, and they received quite a holiday treat.
Pamela Paul sent in photos from the event, which can also be viewed in the attached video by ABC7.
The children are patients are Children's Hospital Los Angeles, and Paul, along with other Delta flight attendants, bussed the children to LAX where the TSA rap choir sang to them at Gate 50.
Next, the children boarded a decorated Boeing 737, which was bound to the North Pole. Although it never actually left the ground. The plane taxied around the airport for an hour while they had punch and cookies and sang carols.
Paul said the plane pulled into a hanger where Santa Claus greeted them, along with members of the L.A. Kings, more food, games and presents.
Paul said it is an annual tradition for Delta, and she even brought some decorations she puts up on her Studio City house for the event at LAX.
The annual events kicked off two weeks ago at New York-JFK and continued weekend in Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte and Minneapolis/St. Paul. The seasonal festivities are the result of year-round efforts that include raising thousands of dollars to buy food, gifts and provide entertainment and countless volunteer hours of preparation and set-up.
Delta volunteers hosted more than 100 children and their caregivers from Christian City’s Children’s Village and the Calvary Children’s Home near Atlanta at the Technical Operations Center on Friday. Before dinner, the children played on giant inflatable sets, got their faces painted and interacted with roaming costumed characters, including Atlanta Braves mascot, Homer. The visitors were also entertained by a magician, one of the Harlem Globetrotters basketball team members and to close the evening a visit by Santa Claus, who distributed a large bundle of donated gifts to each child by name.
“Do you want to know what Christmas really means?" said Snyder Turner, executive director of Calvary Children’s Home near Atlanta. “You just have to look at the faces of the Delta people here tonight. It’s that selfless joy of giving to others that is what this season is all about. I can’t express how grateful we are to Delta for doing this.”
