Flowers, Candy or Hair?

Locks of Love (LOL) takes donations of hair (10 inches or longer) to make hairpieces for children under the age of 18 who are suffering from terminal diseases or are undergoing treatment.

Flowers, Candy or Hair?

As Valentine's Day approaches you might be wondering what gift from the heart to your loved ones will make the greatest impact.  For those of you who really want to make a difference you can donate your hair.  Locks of Love is a favorite charitable organization because it puts donated hair to wonderful use.  There are children suffering from life-threatening and terminal diseases who will benefit from this most meaningful gift.  The children are under the age of 18 and have suffered hair loss because of disease or from ongoing medical treatments.

Donated hair must be 10 inches or longer and should not have been bleached.  There are participating salons that will cut your hair specifically for LOL. For some of the younger career women you can refresh your life and your look with a more updated, mature, sophisticated style.  You'll contribute immeasurably to the happiness of a sick child by giving their self esteem a big boost.  They are being taken care of physically but a hairpiece can give them an emotional shot of optimism and hope.  Go to their website for complete information:  www.locksoflove.org

I had tried to do this the one time in my life that I'd let my hair get long enough. Unfortunately, I didn't realize they couldn't accept, uh, shall we say "unnatural blondes."

Alexandra, What on earth is an 'unnatural blonde'? Never heard the phrase before.

Very cool blog to post, Irene. I wish I had hair I could donate.

Thanks Ilona, me too. I wish we could find a blogger on Patch who would be willing to donate her hair. It could make a very inspiring youtube -- Mike or Linda Rubin could shoot it.

This was the very first blog I ever read on Patch so while I applaud the other writer for her action I wanted to let YOU know, Irene, that my daughter was inspired but this. Her hair still isn't long enough to donate but she has said that when it is she will cut it.
Good on you for bringing this to our attention.

@G.Cruz God Bless your daughter for her caring generosity. Since my post last year I've been told about three other people donating their hair to locks of love. It's heartwarming. Thank you so much for taking the time to let me know.
