Notes from the Republican National Convention, Tampa Bay Times Forum

The final night of the Republican National Convention - Tampa, Florida

Any evening where you get to see Clint Eastwood, Marco Rubio and Mitt Romney on the same stage has got to be a stellar production.  And it was...

The one thing I truly didn't understand about festive production of the Republican National Convention's glorious grand finale was Callista Gingrich taking the stage with her husband, Newt.  People sitting near me quietly gasped and whispered, "What's SHE doing up there?  She didn't run for President!"  Some of the men within earshot giggled, "She's wife number three, isn't she?"  Another agreed, "She doesn't let him outta her sight".

The evening event was filled with people who were touched by Mitt Romney, his caring, his spiritual nature, his business acumen, talent and generosity.  We were treated to a segment with Olympic winners -- the cheering section seated near me were so excited they nearly fell out of their seats.  There were a few musical numbers which didn't register very well.  The evening cried out for a pretty female singer/dancer who might have delivered a high-energy piece of entertainment.  How can we really complain when we got a scratchy-voiced Clint Eastwood who delivered the goods on President Obama's failure of leadership?  His triumph came when he was about to leave the stage and begged the audience to say those words.  In unison the approximately 50,000 attendees shouted, 'Make my day!'.

Marco Rubio is a superstar on the rise -- no question about it.  He spoke with authority and the self confidence of a man on the move.  The audience adored him.  He introduced Mitt Romney.  Together they received a sustained standing ovation -- equally measured by the standing ovation for Jeb Bush earlier in the evening.

If I had to register any complaint about political campaigns in general I would say I feel creepy when they feature video commercials about Hispanics or blacks.  The ads are supposedly created to attract certain voters and the idea rattles me.  I don't honestly care about the so-called hispanic vote, the Jewish vote, the black vote.  After all, aren't we all Americans?

I attended N.H.H.S. in the mid-seventies. Mr. Reeves and Mr. Moelter were two of my favorites.Read More Loved Mr. McLeroy for Sociology.

great article Mary! Ms. Korney, she sometimes scared me to death! But always around christmas IRead More think of her and pronounce my letters clearly at the end of a word when I sing. I can still remember the song I had to sing for my final, "If ever I would leave you..." She taught me a lot. I agree with everything you said about Mr. Reeves. I had Mr. Pesin for Algebra, he did nothing to help further my math skills. The biggest flirt around, ick. We had a girl in school at the time that flirted her way to an A and hardly ever went to class. Go figure!! I also thought quite highly of Ms. Requiam. Glad she's still around.
