In March I was invited to become a Congressional Delegate for Mitt Romney (as I had in 2008). Due to illness in my family I withdrew the application. Four days on the ground in Tampa would require two travel days. It would be impossible for me to be away from my family for this length of time. About a month ago I received an invitation from the California Delegation. They said, "Come on down, if only for a day or two". How could I resist? I promised Mike Szymanski -- Super Studio City Patch Editor -- that I will try to post from Tampa. However, as an invited guest and not part of the media pool, it may be difficult. In any case I'll photograph as much as possible and keep him updated about events.
The Republican National Convention will be held for four days beginning on Monday, August 27th with the grand finale on Thursday night, August 30th. More than 50,000 people are expected to attend: officials, delegates, alternate delegates, media and invited guests. It will be held at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. The California Delegation will be housed at a hotel near the New Jersey Delegation and there is talk of a shared beach buffet. Thank God for Governor Chris Christie (at least we won't starve).
