Blog: We Give Thanks

A Thanksgiving Prayer.

Please help me to be grateful on this Thanksgiving Day
And make the gravy nice and smooth (is what I mean to say).

I pray the turkey's tender and moist and satisfying.
And if the yams are cooked enough, that will be gratifying.

To have the oven on all day means heating up the kitchen.
I know, I know. Now I'll shut up...so sorry to be bitchin'.

Don't mean to cause a problem while football's on the screen.
Don't want to be sarcastic, nor belicose, nor mean.

I promise to be tolerant when wine spills on my table
I'll just get up and clean it off as quickly as I'm able.

Please give me strength and wisdom to get me through the day.
And get me through the cleanup fast (that's really what I pray).

Black Friday sales are looming large and causing a sensation.
Hopefully I can resist! Avoiding that temptation.

Let's raise a glass and toast our town. 'Salud' and 'Down the Hatch'.
Bless us each and everyone, especially our Patch.

Behind the scenes there is a guy who makes this all look pretty.
His name is Mike (our editor), he's Mr. Studio City

With an Italian name like DeBlasio, you are probably as good a cook as you are a writer. Thanks for giving me your usual fun read and make me realize how thankful I am that you are writing for our Patch. We all have a lot of things to be thankful for and reading your columns is only one of them. I will still miss my Twinkies.
Irene DeBlasio November 24, 2012 at 01:33 pm
@BobBlanchard We Italians have a great love of food, art, music, history and taking a long time to eat slow foods (preferably, at a communal table, under the shade of a fig tree). I do love to cook and write -- and, am flattered by your wonderful comments. Thank you.
I wonder what the Iowa State Fair will do without their deep-fried Twinkies?
