Mind Over Splatter

About Bad Dennis' ECOPLEDGE as well as a rant about foreign films!

Hey Everybody!

James Cullen Bressack here again checking in with this weeks addition to MIND OVER SPLATTER.  This past week was for lack of a better word busy!  I just went into pre production on two different films!  The first I actually can't say a thing about but the other film is called BAD DENNIS. Right now BAD DENNIS is slated to film this summer in Glastonburry England! I was hired to direct it as well as do some re-writes! The producers are doing a little bit of fund raising for the film, ontop of what has already been invested, in order to keep the production ECO FRIENDLY which is pretty cool!  Here is the lowdown:

GREEN FUNDRAISER

Pledging, or raising cash for our Green Bank can involve you. The money you invest into our Green Bank will be spent on the eco-sustainable accommodation and bio fuels, green energy mains supply and tree planting to off-set our carbon footprint.

Our aim:

Find out what's happening in Studio Citywith free, real-time updates from Patch.

To make the world’s first, and continue making eco-friendly produced movies. Once we have established our blueprint, we hope it will inspire the entire movie industry to adopt greener, lower impact methods.

Why:

The entertainment industry is the second biggest polluter after the petroleum sector. London’s film and television businesses produce more than 125,000 tonnes of carbon emissions a year, that’s equivalent to 24,000 London homes.

The project:

Mendip Pictures and Psykik Junky Pictures are endeavouring to make 'Bad Dennis - Cider Party' the first fully low-impact and green production, enabling at very clear blueprint to be made for future filmmakers and productions.  We take extremely seriously the need for low impact, local practices that will cut the amount of waste produced while not scrimping on quality of production.

The method:

Location:

We will live and work at, Fernhill Farm, our location, which is one of the UK’s leading environmentally sustainable, organic living centres.

We will plant a corresponding amount of native trees at the Location to

Compensate for any travel, which is not low impact ecologically.

Accommodation:

This low-impact accommodation features re-cycled wood interiors, wool insulation, and under floor heating. Rainwater is harvested from the roof and wastewater is purified in their WET System, enabling our production to have minimal environmental impact.

Catering:

All our food will come from the farm and the surrounding area and will be cooked on site. Every thing from the rubbish to the catering materials will be recycled.

Power:

All our electricity will come from green and Renewable sources. The centre already uses the Green suppler Ecotricity for its power and bio diesel will be used in all generators.

Local and location vehicles:

All will be bio, gas or electric.
Here is a short film we made exploring the ‘Bad Dennis’ story, which was shown at film festivals across Europe and premiered at the world famous Green Gathering.

Now that i just filled you in on all things BAD DENNIS, and keeping the production ECOFRIENDLY, I can talk about MY PURE JOY.

This week I was interviewed about MY PURE JOY.  You can catch a recording of the Interview right here at : http://www.blogtalkradio.com/entrepreneursonthemove/2011/05/12/horror-filmsyoungest-filmmaker-visits-the-e-buzz-show

Ok. Now I am done shoving promotion down your throat! It's time for the good stuff!  And by good stuff I of course mean THE GORY GOODNESS.  This week I want everyone to take a peak at Tekashi Miikie's spectacular film AUDITION.  This film is pretty demented.  Filled with an interesting story and some cringe worthy torture scenes AUDITION is by far one of my favorite horror movies.  The film is japanese, so if you don't let the subtitles scare you I guarantee the film will!  It is grotesque and yet beautiful, and showcases one of the most haunting performances I have ever seen. I don't want to give anymore away so please just see it and let me know what you think!

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE FOREGIN FILMS! This being said, I wanted to bring up one of my biggest petpieves.  I have noticed many people refuse to broaden thier horizons in the film making world due to the fact that they don't want to read subtitles. OPEN YOUR EYES PEOPLE. Some of the best movies come out of foreign countaries. Not only are these films more artistic, but often they are remade into American Films that aren't nearly as good as thier foreign originals.  A good movie entertains you. A good film will make you forget your reading subtitles. A great Film will make you forget you are watching a movie at all!  If you already watch foreign films, Good for you! If not, please give it a chance, you will be surprised with what you see! Because of amazing storylines,  phenominal acting,  and beautiful cinematography among many other things, you will begin to realize that foreign countaries still make films for artsake, whereas Hollywood pictures seem to be doing it for the MONEY!

Well guys! Thanks for reading today!  I actually have to get back to writing a script for a deadline I have, but I promise to give you a jucier entry next week!

Keep on keepin on!
