Where is 'Jessie's Girl'? Find Out (Maybe) on March 25 at the San Fernando Valley Professional School's Benefit Concert Starring Rick Springfield

San Fernando Valley Professional School students perform Rick Springfield's "Jessie's Girl" to honor his appearance at the school's March 25 benefit concert at the Canyon Club.

Everyone loves Rick Springfield’s '80’s classic angst-ridden “Jessie’s Girl.”  Inspired by a true story (Springfield fell for the girlfriend of a man named Gary while attending a stained glass –making class in Pasadena.), “Jessie’s Girl” was the number one song in the USA when MTV launched in 1981 and, according to Rolling Stone, is the number one Karaoke song to this day. Rick Springfield won a Grammy for his rock vocal on “Jessie’s Girl” and the song was voted one of the Top 100 Songs of the 1980’s.

A testament to the song’s emotional truth and energy is its appeal to kids born long after the mysterious “Jessie’s Girl” disappeared from Springfield’s life  (The Oprah Winfrey show tried to locate her, but failed.).  Just watch this fabulous cover version performed in one take by students at the San Fernando Valley Professional School in honor of Rick Springfield’s appearance this month at their school’s benefit concert, “Reaching for the Stars”: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqBAWFDVKow&feature=youtu.be).

You may wonder why these kids are so good. Well, they’re professional performers (actors, singers, musicians, dancers and athletes, musicians, and models) who attend San Fernando Valley Professional School, a very special school that offers concentrated and challenging academic class schedules that accommodate the career goals of its talented students.

What’s unique about this unusual school is the sense of community it creates. At SPVPS the 74 elementary, middle, and high school students interact in an old-fashioned  “one room school” community, with teachers working with all grade levels. Without SFVPS, these students would be forced to enroll in solitary online studies or find instruction from tutors.

SFVPS is a thriving community and it needs your help. “Reaching for the Stars” is SFVPS’s amazing benefit concert starring Rick Springfield, Billy Ray Cyrus and Phil Driscoll at the Canyon Club in Agoura Hills on March 25th. VIP tickets are available for you hardcore Springfield fans and include premium seating, meet & greet with the artists, dinner and open bar.  General tickets start at $60. There will also be a Live Silent Auction featuring signed guitars and other exciting items. All funds raised will go to SFVPS, a nonprofit, and are tax-deductible. Who knows? This concert may be the occasion the real “Jessie’s Girl” makes herself known to Rick Springfield and the world. Why not? Wouldn’t you if you were Jessie’s Girl?
