Wiener Dog Wednesday, It's a Party Pack

It's that time again, Wiener Dog Wednesday and this week's tip is to only adopt and rescue within your limits. Dachshunds are so addictive with their many different coat and color combinations, and it’s a slippery slope to go from responsible dachshund guardian to hoarder. Many of us fantasize about having a herd of dachshunds on several acres of sprawling land – which is great, but in truth we all need to know our personal limits. Each dachshund you accept is a lifetime commitment – since they can live so long (up to 20+ years).

In the absence of permanently adding to your pack, consider scheduling play dates and sleepovers with friends. I do it all the time and it’s perfect. You get to have the joy and amusement of a temporarily extended pack while allowing your doxies (and their friends) the opportunity to work on their socialization skills. Monday I had seven dachshunds at my house for the day and it was fun. I absolutely loved it (as evident by the pictures), but I’m clear there’s no way I could do that fulltime – without lots of hired help. What always brings me back to center is quality over quantity. I prefer to spoil my two vs. having more and having to sacrifice quality of care. My two can literally have anything they want (and they do), but with a third or fourth that might not be true anymore. Food for thought.
