Thank Dog Bootcamp, Dachshund Exclusive Series

Inviting all dachshunds and their humans in the Valley to get physical.

Thank Dog Bootcamp provides an opportunity for human and dog to work out together.  Exercise is good for both two-legged and four-legged folks, and if you can combine the two then that just makes life a little simpler.

Dachshund Outreach Giving and Socialization (DOGS) has partnered with Thank Dog Bootcamp to offer a dachshund exclusive series for the month of September.  Starting this Saturday and continuing through for the next three consecutive Saturdays, humans and their doxies will be working out in North Hollywood.  There is still space if you want to join us.

- Dates: Saturday, Sept. 8, 15, 22 and 29 (four consecutive Saturdays)

- Price $50 per each pair (one human and one dog) which is about $12.50 class – which is an amazingly good price, I think.

- Required equipment:  Yoga mat, hand weights, water and a towel or mat for your dog while in its “place.”

The workout is full body mixed with sets of exercise and training for the doxies in between.  For example, when we’re stationary at our mats, the dogs are tether to a tie provided by Thank Dog Bootcamp while we do some abs and leg routines.  After which, we’ll get up, gather our dogs and do another series of reps and commands incorporating our doxies.   It’s a great bonding exercise for dogs and humans, and a tired dog is a good dog.

Thank Dog Bootcamp classes are normally mixed classes with both big and small dogs in the same session, and of course those are just as fun and productive as any.  However, if we’re being perfectly honest some dachshunds / small dogs do better sans the big dogs.  Dachshunds and small dogs should continue to work on their sociability at all times, but it also gives us humans peace of mind when we’re less worried about our small hunters darting towards that big German Shepard.

Finally unlike other bootcamps, there is not a lot of yelling or pressure to do any exercise you don’t feel comfortable doing.  We’re all there to support each other in our physical fitness, but there is no judgment.  I have been to classes where there was a good cross section of people including seniors and teens so worry less about your prowess and focus more on your desire to get out with your dachshund!
