Health & Fitness

Thank Dog Mobile

Love this new app! We should keep our dogs trim, and might as well lead by example by working out with them. You can do the routines in your backyard, living room or favorite local park.

Thank Dog Mobile is like having your own personal pocket trainer on-call 24/7 for a fraction of the cost.  A tired dog is a good dog, and humans that regularly exercise feel better and look better.  Thank Dog Bootcamp allows both dog and human to work out together and is a pioneer in the field of fitness, but if you can’t make the classes or if the classes are not offered in your area, there’s a solution: the new Thank Dog Mobile app for iPhones.

Let’s face it, in today’s financially conservative culture many folks are trimming luxury expenses.  Gym memberships, personal trainers and dog walker are sometimes the first items to be cut when tightening the budget.  Ironically they’re probably some of the most important items to living a long healthy, stress-free life for both dog and human.

Saving the day in the name physical fitness for both dogs and humans all over is Thank Dog Mobile.  The app is free comes with two standard workout routines.  For an additional $2.99 you can unlock the app and gain access to 18 more.  The routines allow you to do a full body workout or just target areas of concern like legs, arms or abs.  Because the app is mobile, you can do workout in your backyard or local neighborhood park.  You can do it basically anywhere you and your dog can travel at any time you’re inspired to relieve some stress and bond with your dog.

I personally lack the motivation to go at it alone.  I need that “trainer” in my ear encouraging me to go 20 seconds longer.  There may be other exercise apps, but I really like all the thought that went into this one.  In addition to the multiple 1-hour routines one can choose from, each command or exercise includes a video and still photography demonstrating it which I find very thorough.  I sometimes just need a quick glance at the photo to remember the exercise, while other times I need the video to be reminded of the movement.

Two of my favorite features include the ability to sync your personal playlist and the opportunity to post your completed workout to Facebook.  Let’s face it, if it’s not recorded on Facebook there is no evidence it really happened.

Thank Dog Mobile is only available via the iPhone at the moment, but if it becomes hugely popular they’ll consider releasing a DROID app.  Be certain to get all of your iPhone friends to download the app today and use it!

If you’re local and need some added encouragement, join the Thank Dog Mobile Meetup Group.  They’re planning to meet on Saturdays throughout the greater LA area.  You will work out at your own pace and at whatever routine you choose for the full hour, but there will be others around for moral and technical support.

Emily and I tried it out this past Saturday and enjoyed it!

Let's workout with your DOG and iPhone!
