Wiener Dog Wednesday, Night Edition

Rufus is sick.

We hope all of our friends and fans had a very good Wiener Dog Wednesday.  We are delayed in posting because Rufus is sick.  Emily and I have playing nursemaid all day.  We think he is on the mends, but progress is painfully slow.  Rufus’ current ailment is like an awkward itch: it may take a few tries to get it, but once you got it, it feels so good.  We can’t wait to feel so very good again.

Here is your doxie tip of the week: when our dogs are on a bland diet, I like to boil organic chicken breast in water – no seasoning or oil – underscoring the "bland” part of the diet.  Afterwards I take that water or low sodium chicken broth leftover and 1) give it to the sick pup as a nice refreshing drink (as it cools) and/or 2) put the liquid in ice trays and freeze for a cool yummy treat on a hot summer day.  Rufus was not very interested in drinking plain Jane filtered water but was very receptive to the homemade chicken broth.  Keeping a sick dog hydrated is very important to his recovery.

What’s your favorite indulgent for your pup when ailing?
