Wiener Dog Wednesday, Tuesday Edition

Celebrating 8 wonderful years of Rufus.

Getting a dog changes a person, I was told.  Never were there ever truer words.  My adorable red regal smooth miniature dachshund Rufus was whelped on this day and changed my world forever.  Celebrating 8 wonderful years today, Rufus continues to make me smile daily.  He entertains and consoles; he has been my sidekick on countless adventures and remains a loving, loyal companion.  Yes, he is a mere dog to the undiscerning eye and one may think I’m exaggerating the relationship, but I’m not.

Rufus served as my motivation to spearhead LA Doxies, our local monthly meetup group now in its 8 year as well.  Additionally, he is the inspiration for the newly formed global nonprofit Dachshund Outreach Giving and Socialization (DOGS) dedicated to educating our doxie loving community at large on matters of health, diet and the supreme importance of regular socialization.

My low-riding badger hunter encourages me to stay physically active as we both age gracefully, and has served as a social bridge to many friendships I would have never known had it not been for him.  Today I happily honor the life of Rufus.  He has given me so much and enriched my life – and the lives of many others – beyond measure.

Some may consider me a crazy eccentric dog person, but I’m a happy crazy eccentric dog person thanks to Rufus.  Happy Birthday Rufus!!!  In lieu of gifts please consider making a tax deductible donation to DOGS.  Rufus’ collar was provided by our friends at LuxeMutt, and I think he looks rather dapper in it.  His birthday hat is from our friends at Maxwell Dog in Studio City.
