Blog: Former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan Endorses Kevin James for Mayor

Says James is the Only Candidate ‘Tough Enough’ to Turn Los Angeles Around

2/16/13- Former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan officially announced his endorsement of mayoral candidate and former federal prosecutor Kevin James.

“Kevin is the only candidate capable of creating real pension reform for the City of Los Angeles,” said former mayor Richard Riordan. “His complete independence from the special interest groups at City Hall will allow Kevin to establish real change for L.A. I am confident in Kevin’s abilities to turn this city around and lead us toward prosperity just like we did when I was elected Mayor.  I strongly encourage my fellow Angelenos to support him in his candidacy for mayor.”

Richard Riordan was the 39th Mayor of Los Angeles from 1993-2001, and later served as the California Secretary of Education from 2003-2005. As Mayor of Los Angeles, Riordan championed the growth of the neighborhood councils and instituted mayoral term limits. After his tenure as Mayor, he advocated for leadership changes and policy reforms at the Los Angeles Unified School District through The Riordan Foundation, that’s mission is ‘to provide students, especially those in low-income communities, with access to a high-quality education that will prepare them to compete successfully in the 21st Century.’

“I am honored to have the trust and support of Mayor Richard Riordan,” said mayoral candidate Kevin James. “Los Angeles is a city in crisis. We have a jobs crisis, a budget crisis, an infrastructure crisis, an education crisis, a corruption crisis, a transportation crisis, and a communication crisis; in total we have a leadership crisis. I am the independent candidate in this race and I will be the new leader that will put L.A. back on track.”

No surprise Reardon would endorse James. Would not dare endorse a Democrat. But since he was not much of a mayor, I can't imagine James would be a better one. And the comments about the Nabe Councils is a joke - he may have entitled them, but gave them no power or influence to accomplish anything. Sounds like a politician to me. You need someone who understands the system, not a radio dude that comes in from the cold.

Regretably James didn't make it, but he did attract positive attention for the future. He was a breath of fresh air for this election and I'm sure we'll hear from him again. We'll let Wendy and Eric duke it out and see who is left in the ring as the outcome with either will only be "more of the same". But we voted and that counts above all else.

I would LOVE to be Your Mayor my friends in LA I am stuck here in New Canaan, CT You are lucky not to live here as I have NO friends or live and am in SEVERE depress state. The people here are not nice like You all are. They shun me and will NOT help me despite desperate pleas. If anyone wants to be my friend/pen-pal I would be glad to be a friend. I think I would make a great friend as I would make a great Mayor too
