What Paula Deen’s court documents say:

According to the court documents, Jackson [former employee and defendant] states that she was appointed by Deen to handle the catering and staff for Bubba’s wedding in 2007, and she asked Deen what the servers should wear: “Well what I would really like is a bunch of little n***ers to wear long-sleeve white shirts, black shorts and black bow ties, you know in the Shirley Temple days, they used to tap dance around,” Jackson alleges Deen told her. “Now, that would be a true Southern wedding wouldn’t it? But we can’t do that because the media would be on me about that.” (Source)

Maybe Paula’s right? Maybe we should just put them in “long-sleeve white shirts, black shorts and black bow ties.” I mean it’s a job, right? Oh, Mrs. Butterworth, you’re so right… I mean “Right.”. Come on, it’s not like we all don’t look extra debonair when we wear a bow-tie with our island Bermuda shorts. Black shorts? Are you kidding me? Why does she suggest only the middle-age black men? I suppose it’s a classic. Yeah, if you’re talking pre-1863, I’m sure it is.

And what’s this fixation with tap-dancing around the wedding party like our red-headed princess of yesteryear? Wow, I thought we were beyond that. I mean the cute little multi-racial girl from the multigrain cereal commercial does distinctly give a nod to our former U.S. ambassador to Ghana, Ms. Shirley Temple.

 But "gee whiz" and “oh my goodness,” all this blatant ignorance makes me wish I could actually sing! However, I'm tone deaf. But I ain't blind. I see just one that will shed some light on the situation.  "Oh My Goodness" one of Ms. Temple’s favorite tunes:Check out these lyrics!

Speaking of a toe-tapping little ditty, did you know that approximately 12-13 percent of the American population is African-American, but they make up 40.1 percent of the almost 2.1 million male inmates in jail or prison? Now that’s a statistic that deserves a song.
