A Cold, Hearty Breakfast on a Warm Day

Registered Dietitian Lauren Schmitt would like to share a recipe that will keep you cool and healthy in the warm weather.

It's April and it is 85 degrees out there. Many of us love our oatmeal in the
morning so why not try it cold. Some of us may know this as No Cook Oats or
Summer Porridge. It does not matter what you call it as long as you try it.

Mix 1/4 cup oats, 1/3 cup milk, 1/4 cup yogurt (Greek is preferable), 2 teaspoons
chia seeds or flax seeds, and any fruit or spices you like. Some great mix-ins
are chunky applesauce and cinnamon, peanut butter and raisins, blueberries and
maple syrup, raspberries, or pumpkin or apple butter. Mix all ingredients and
put in a covered bowl in the refrigerator overnight. In the morning, eat and
enjoy!

It is delicious and very nutritious. By adding chia or flax seeds, you get your
omega 3 fatty acids. This recipe has the fiber, calcium, protein, and many more
vitamins and minerals that you need to start your day.
