January 2011: I made my first resolution ever! To make my mark with my photography.
Little did I know the artistic journey I was on! My eye completely changed. I went from shooting sunsets and portraits of people to shooting reflections in swimming pools, kitchen sinks and boiling pots of water. Out of nowhere I became an abstract artist!
And almost 365 days later, I notice something that really throws me for a loop.
The work is optimistic work. I am, after all, not really an optimist. I worry about the upcoming 2012 Mayan Calendar end of times prediction. Is this our last Christmas? And since the Japanese tsunami, I’ve been hesitant to spend any time near the water and I turn on CNN every single morning to see what the disaster count is for the day. See what I'm saying...??
So, when the colors of my work started finding familiar ground in each other in the past few months, there was no denying the pattern of hope that I, in spite of myself, saw. My inner life has always been a very strong influence on my outer life. Hope is a good thing.
The oranges, the pinks, the yellows, the golds, the reds...these are not colors of gloom and doom! Seems my inner life has a more powerful take on the world than I realized. So the world can come to an end...it seems, I will be fine.
My work has had some nice showings the past couple of months also. At the L.A.Digital Center for Photography, the Carter-Sexton Holiday Gallery show, the traveling show through Gallery 9, where hundreds of artists were involved in a traveling group show to raise funds for crutches for 1o,ooo prs. of crutches for those in need in Sierra Leone. Showings for that group show included L.A., Oakland, Long Beach and Manhattan galleries.
So a very good year for me. An artistic direction, a body of work, 3 shows and a website. I can hardly wait to see what next year brings!

I would like to thank the following people for allowing me over the past year, whether they were aware of it or not, to allow me to stretch my artistic wings shooting in their kitchen sinks and swimming pools.
