Studio City resident takes first place in Women in Photography International Contest!

It's been more than a few weeks since I came in first in the Women in Photography International Contest. It has taken this long for it to really sink in. You know, as an artist, you just do your thing and hope that you will be recognized by someone. You don't do it for the money or the glory, although money and glory are a nice perk!

As a photographer, I work in a bubble. I don't show my work nor do I exhibit. That is wrong and I'm working on changing that. A true artist, I just want to create and am not much interested in selling my stuff. It's always the journey to me, not the destination. I am proud of my body of work but I really am interested in creating more. It's my therapy and I count on it to give my life meaning.

Women in Photography International was one contest that I entered not thinking anything would happy really. I had become nonchalant about entering and not winning these things but my heart really started beating when I saw my name listed under First Prize. And that honor was chosen by a juror, Daniel Miller of the Duncan Miller Gallery, a gallery, I might add, of very high esteem, in my opinion. I am beyond honored. I'm tickled.

Women in Photography International is a non-profit company that has been around since 1981. That is a lot of photography! They promote the visibility of women photographers and their work through a variety of programs, exhibitions, juried competitions and publications. I hope to have a long and fulfilling creative life with this organization.
