Unseasonably hot temperatures for a Los Angeles winter could get close to setting high temperatures today.
The Studio City weather center of Grant Cooper shows that today can reach a high of 83 degrees which is 3 degrees short of the record of 86 set in 1980.
The average high temperature on an early January day in Los Angeles is 71 degrees. The average overall temperature for Studio City on a day like today is 53.
The various weather stations show that close to noon the temperatures are about 80 degrees at the Hollywood Freeway split in Studio City, about 66 degrees up on Laurel Canyon Boulevard, and 81 at the Studio City Weather Center.
At 2 p.m. our own WeatherBug shows that we tied the record heat of the day in Studio City at 86 degrees (see the page top left), but the highest Studio City Weather Center recorded was 85, which is not quite the record yet.
According to The Weather Channel, the Los Angeles area is experiencing the hottest temperatures in the country today, with temperatures at 24 degrees in New York, 54 in Miami, 55 in Dallas, 23 in Chicago, 49 in San Francisco and 46 in Portland.
There could be a chance of rain later in the week, and temperatures are expected to cool.
