Studio City Honors Mike Szymanski

The founding editor of Studio City Patch receives a send-off and proclamation from the neighborhood council and the City of Los Angeles.

It was with heavy hearts Wednesday night the Studio City Neighborhood Council, community members and the City of Los Angeles bid farewell to its own Mr. Studio City, its founding Patch editor Mike Szymanski.

"As you know he is the retiring editor of Studio City Patch and has done an outstanding job in our community," said Council President John Walker. "He's been a voice for you, for all of us."

Walker read a very touching poem posted on Studio City Patch by Irene DiBlasio in tribute to Szymanski's devotion to the news of his community.

Geoffrey Yazzetta, field deputy from Councilman Paul Krekorian's office, presented Szymanski with a proclamation from the city. It also honors the tireless work Szymanski accomplished to put not just Studio City Patch, but also Patch Media on the map in Los Angeles.

"I appreciate the outpouring from the community," Szymanski said, whose family attended Wednesday night's council meeting. "I've received letters from policemen and politicians, and they’re not supposed to like journalists."

"I know you haven't liked everything I've written about you," Szymanski added, turning his attention back to the neighborhood council members, "but whoever's taking my place will get the same corrections you've given me, and I appreciate that."

Szymanski said he plans to hold a big party with the community in October at Star Lite Catina.
