Food for Fun

Food for fun is exactly what it sounds like. You can create new and fun recipes to enhance your taste buds while enjoying some great flavors and tasty food.

Food for fun sounds great. I don’t suggest fast food. I am recommending something fun, creative and healthy.

Let’s start with an appetizer. Something that is orange with fiber. If you guessed sweet potatoes, you’re correct. Clean and slice the sweet potato with the skin on in small round slices. Put them on a baking sheet and bake them in a 350 degree oven for 30-40 minutes or until they are done.

Sizzle some turkey bacon in a frying pan. When they are cooled off, break them into small pieces. When the potatoes are done, place a piece of bacon on top of the potato and top the bacon with either feta, goat or mozzarella cheese. Broil it for 1-2 minutes or until the cheese is melted. These flavors are so great together. It’s perfect for an appetizer or a tasty side dish.

Something else that is delicious is bruschetta on top of a thinly sliced baguette bread. Top the bruschetta with kalamata olives and sprinkle with parmesan cheese. It is so delicious and great for an entertaining appetizer. Bruschetta can be bought already made in a jar or you can be an adventurous chef and make your own.

How about a tasty onion? Some people might think an onion often causes bad breath. But have you ever cooked and tasted a caramelized onion? The flavor is amazing. Get a brown, white or yellow onion. Slice it into rings or slices. Get a small pot or saute pan. Drizzle the pan with extra virgin olive oil and heat pan. Put the onions in the pan, sprinkle with black pepper and cover the pan. Cook on low heat for about 45 minutes to an hour or longer if you prefer. Stir occasionally so the onions are cooked evenly and do not burn. When the onion is done cooking, it will become brown and caramelized. The onion will be intensely cooked and have a wonderful sweet flavor.

The onion can be served with roasted or mashed potatoes, burgers, steaks, chicken, mushrooms or anything else that would enhance your taste buds with this unique and tasty flavor.

Food can get boring if you prepare it the same way all of the time. However, by experimenting different techniques and being creative in the kitchen will allow your taste buds something different from the ordinary.

Great flavors do not have to increase your calorie intake and will still have you enjoying some of your favorite fun foods.
