Our quiet Studio City neighborhood was abruptly shaken early Friday morning by the sound and vibrations of a very active police helicopter. My house shook and was lit by the very bright lights.
After several black and whites surrounded my street and the police officers were scouring the neighborhood with their flashlights, I was concerned.
About an hour after the activity was occurring, a large tow truck was parked in front of my house. I became very curious and proceeded outside when I felt safe enough.
I spoke with the police officers to find out the story. The shocking truth was about to change my perspective of my neighbor, whom I never met. My neighbor allegedly crashed his car and allegedly hit several other parked cars in the neighborhood of Studio City. The skid marks and broken car parts were very apparent that this situation could have been a lot worse.
As I watched the suspect try to walk a straight line and take an alcohol breath test, it was obvious to me where this was going. His blood alcohol level was above the legal limit in California according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
I was the only person outside in the middle of the night taking photos and being a nosey, yet curious neighbor.
My neighbor, Casey Chaos, also known as Karim Chmielinski, is the lead singer in the punk rock band, “Amen”. He was arrested and booked on suspicion DUI charges and taken to jail. His car was impounded for evidence.
As he stood in handcuffs, he was angry and frustrated about his current situation claiming he was a victim being chased and harassed by someone. He also stated he and his wife are currently separated. He was rambling to the police but very cooperative.
Chaos was released from jail before 10 a.m. this morning after posting $5,000 bail. He faces several charges including avoiding police and hit and run.
