Finding a Job is a Full Time Job

My daily routine has been my job to search for a job. The depressing reality of a new reality is quite discouraging with the struggling economy.

I have been unsuccessful to earn a stable paycheck as I remain unemployed. Many cover letters and resumes being sent out have become my daily routine. I recently discovered Linked In and have made close to 1,000 connections sending cover letters and resumes to my new networking relationships. Talking to people, networking, going on several interviews and yet I remain unemployed.

“You’re great and overqualified”. That is a response I have heard over and over again. “So what…I am applying for the job. Consider yourself a lottery winner getting me as your overqualified employee”. I don’t actually say that but I certainly want to. If someone doesn’t appreciate my talents soon, I don’t know what I am going to do. I have a family to support and it’s a very frustrating situation.

I’m an undocumented statistic in the struggling economy because I don’t receive unemployment benefits. I’m a mother of 2 children trying to figure out why an educated person such as I continues to be unemployed.

I feel like I’m being punished for taking time off of work to raise my children.

What has happened to the American way of doing things right? I paid for myself to go to college.  I’m a college graduate with my B.A. in Journalism and a minor in Speech Communications and Theatre Arts. I have worked as a Project Manager in creative advertising, radio and television production. In addition, I’m a professional voice over artist, raised thousands of dollars for non-profit organizations, volunteered countless hours at my children’s schools, bake and sell my homemade cookies and have run 13 Los Angeles Marathons. I must be worth something to someone.

I have been told by numerous people the many talents I have. I agree. After all selling my skills to someone else really isn’t that hard when the confidence I boast is ambitious.

Someone please hire me. I promise the compliments I have received won’t let you down.
