It's The First Amendment - Stupid

Our enduring love of stupid and its most natural method of spreading. Free Speech.

Everyone has the Right to be Stupid. That’s why the 1st Amendment was written. I feel that it is the most sacred right we have. All other rights are understood and misunderstood based on our collective understanding of the words used to write the other amendments. Disabuse of it should have greater consquences than it has now but then again everyone has the right to be stupid and right now stupid rules.

Stupid comes to us from many paths. “Stupid is as stupid does,” goes the line in Forrest Gump. That might not be the exact quote and I could easily look it up online or watch the movie but I won’t. I’ll stay ignorant. Why? An illustration. I will allow that profound statement to be perhaps misquoted and become an ignorant statement. Ignorance is a common path to stupid. And ignorance believed can become facts. Facts are what we base our speech on stupid or not. We know something, a fact, and we wish to impart that fact to you. Now let’s say that the Gump quote is not quite right. But some people reading it here, tell themselves it looks right and they don’t want to take the minute to find out for sure so they assume it is factual. The quote may never come up again for the rest of our lives but it might and knowing that we placed an ignorant thought into our conversation is stupid but that’s all RIGHT because EHTRTBS. I shortened it. That’s very lazy I know and maybe it’s stupid but that’s the beauty of stupid. It’s stupid.

Stupid has other paths that are more malevolent.  One of them is based on hate. You can first act like the statement you make is ignorant. It can be excused.  But secretly you are hoping that there are some haters like yourself out there that will believe whatever you say no matter how many times it is discredited. Remember hate is irrational and that’s a fact and a true fact that talk show hosts depend upon. The mistake of ignorance has been dismissed by all but the haters and for them it becomes another fact. Like hate itself it is irrational but by and using the First Amendment as its talisman you can spread your hate because hate is not a fact but rather a feeling looking for a fact. Once your “fact” is established in the hater’s mindset then it will grow by itself but stronger root if it is occasionally supplemented with more “ignorance” or stupidity. Ah the dark side where “hate can complete your training and we can control the galaxy as Fath…”.  Sorry. And that’s not even an exact quote but remember EHTRTBS!

The Stupid of Hate doesn’t have rights. As a matter of fact, Hate Speech is a violation of the First Amendment. However there are some folks like talk show hosts (especially sports talk show hosts), religious leaders, Senators who didn’t win the Presidency, entertainers like Rush Limbaugh, white supremacists… etc., who hate the term hate speech. Hate speech is used most often by desperate people hoping to change the outcome of something based on fact by supplanting that fact with ignorance fueled by the aforementioned hate. We like this. It’s where we live most of our lives. Ignorance that joins irrational hatred and needs only something stupid to solidify is baselessness. That why there is EHTRTBS. Stupid is friendly. It requires no work. It requires only the slightest belief that, when mixed in with some ignorant fact or stupid statement, will flourish and something bad will happen.

Like when we go to an unnecessary war or don’t fix a bridge because it will add tax to job creators or not allow perfectly good people to not be enjoined in the bliss of marriage because it makes us uncomfortable with our irrational hate or… well you can make up your own I’m sure. The preceding examples all come from the use of the First Amendment and its enduring right to let us be stupid and maybe even, dare I say it? -- hateful. I’ll talk about stupid some more later on. I believe I can call myself an expert even without a First Amendment.
