Plastic Bags and Memorial Day

Patch is such a wonder of diversity of thought. One more to consider is those that serve.

I've spent the last hour reading Patch. Not a waste of time. A thoroughly engrossing tapestry of all of our concerns, joys and sadly some real tragedy. I find some of the blogs really accomplished and some kind of silly but then I think that's America. We are a diverse country. I know some of us don't want so much diversity but no matter where you read Patch whatever the community and we may look the same but we are are blessed with much diversity. Diversity of thought.

Some of us today in Los Angeles are deeply concerned about plastic bags and others about celebrity sightings and all of us are concerned about the tragic and all too short life of Zac Champiommer and his Mother's quest to keep his memory alive. The reall truth is we're all consumed by so many different things that is frankly dizzying.

How appropriate for today. Memorial Day. A day when we are supposed to venerate those that have served to maintain our ability to worry and celebrate our mutual interests. But I am surprised how little interest there is in Memorial Day. For example my the Patch I read is the Studio City Patch there is very little writing about the real danger facing a few fellow Americans to the finality of catastrophic injury or death. Even thought this is a simultaneous event to our amazingly passionate discussion of plastic bags.

Perhaps its the fact that less than1% of the entire US are involved in the reality of war while we all are touched by the miracle and convenience of plastic bags. I'm just quessing that those military personell who volunteered and weren't drafted, probably aren't consumed about whether or not they will come back to a plastic bagless Los Angeles or not. They just want to come home and I want them to do so as well. Whole, healthy and ready to jump into this passionate discussion about plastic bags or whatever discussion they want. Because after all our diversity of thought is why they are truly serving.

Happy Memorial Day to all. Take a moment and consider how freaking lucky we are and send your good thoughts and/or prayers to those who have served or are currently serving.
