Beware the Market Blogger!

The Studio City Farmers Market Celebrates Fall and Halloween

I know, I know, I know! It’s about time someone wrote something about the in Patch. Well never fear, the Market Blogger is here. In this soon to be regular blog, I will thrill you with news of ever so succulent pluots. Lure you to walk on the wild side by titillating your imagination with visions of exotic and mysterious vegetables - just imagine a pale slice of crunchy kohlrabi lying ever so seductively on your salad or dinner plate calling you to feast! And, give you the inside scoop on upcoming events and offerings at your local Sunday Farmers Market.

So, to get this ball rolling, I want to recap what you missed at Sunday’s Market, if by chance you opted for the instead. (No guilt here, just want to keep you in the loop.)  Or, if you were at the Market, I’ll help you relive the magic moments of the day.

And here they are. of Raphael’s Restaurant in Studio City did the Market’s first, in what the Market hopes will become a regular event, “Cooking with Locals” cooking demonstration. Adam cruised the Market selecting a variety of vegetables from different farmers and, with a chop, a flip and a pour, created, right before our very eyes, just like magic, three incredible dishes, with nothing more than a hot plate, a knife and a skillet. (He’s the guy I want to go camping with!!!) Lucky Market goers were then given the pleasure of sampling Adam’s creations. I have been promised that Adam will provide recipes for the dishes he served, and will post them on Patch when I get them.

You also missed Cinderella. Back for a return engagement, just in time for the upcoming Halloween season, A Day At The Ball was at the Market with Cinderella in tow. They will be back on October 30, and who knows what fairy princess will be tagging along. You’ll have to come to the Market if you want to find out.

I can tell you, however, with absolute certainty that Snow White, from El Portal Theatre’s current production starring Neal Patrick Harris, will be at the Market on the 30th to join in our annual Studio City Farmers Market Children’s Holiday Costume Parade. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. by Laurel Canyon, and will tour the Market for all to see. We invite one and all to don their favorite costumes (within reason, this is a family market) and join in the parade. All participating children will receive a ticket for a free pony ride, train ride, visit to the petting zoo, or jump in one of the Market’s awesome blow up jumpers. (Look for me, I’ll be the one in the blow-up cow suit.)

This Sunday, the 23rd, look for lots of colorful and flavorful varieties of winter squash for sale. Plan your Halloween costume around them. You can come as Martha Stewart and decorate the Market’s fall tables with the beauties while you simultaneously carve pictures of owls and gingko leaves into each one. (Go to http://www.marthastewart.com/275639/halloween-pumpkin-carving-patterns-and-p/@center/276965/halloween for the patterns) Or, put on your apron and come as Julia Child and whip up a delightful plate of butternut squash in ginger and garlic as you parade past your adoring fans. (Here is a link to the recipe if you need help with this one. http://www.food.com/recipe/butternut-squash-in-ginger-and-garlic-adapt-julia-child-269363)

Even if you decide to come just as yourself, we look forward to seeing one and all at the Market for a great pre-Halloween celebration.

Cheers!
