Becoming an Engaged Citizen: A Rally in the Valley for Roseanne Barr & Fed-Up Voters!

Independent Commentary, Opinion & Political Analysis by local activist & community organizer, Michael McCue

No one can deny that we are living in strange times.

Both Democrats and Republicans in Congress refuse to create
accountability for the sociopathic Wall Street Banksters whose ongoing, illegal
mortgage fraud caused a global financial collapse…robbed our treasury blind
with their “too-big-to-fail” bank bailouts (made possible by corporate-owned politicians in both parties)…and whose continuing fraudulent foreclosures are kicking millions of American families out of their homes and into the streets, rendering them homeless, with no consequence for the criminal banksters whatsoever….

Our corporate-owned media refuse to acknowledge that out-of-season tornadoes and killer storms are due to Climate Change Chaos caused by man-made Global Warming, and have banned the term itself from the airwaves…while F-5 tornadoes (in February!) wipe out entire American communities, the Arctic Sea melts, massive species extinction escalates, and the mean global temperature, along with our sea-levels, keeps rising …

Congress continues to subsidize Big Oil companies with literally billions of American taxpayer dollars, even though Big Oil makes historic, never-seen-before, unheard-of profits…in spite of the fact that Big Oil is in collusion with those who fund Al-Queda terrorists, as well as Wall Street sociopaths, who are manipulating oil markets to viciously gouge the American consumer at the gas pump now more than ever…

And increasingly, media viewers, desperate for the truth, are forced to turn away from corporate-owned  media to get their current events and honest political
coverage from comedians like John Stewart and Stephen Colbert…

In these strange times, there may be only one person in America who can truly speak to the irony of it all, cut through the crap, speak Truth to Power, and take a stand on behalf of our 99% of abused Americans.

Roseanne Barr is running for President of the United States on the Green Party ticket!

Now before you say something derogatory…keep in mind that I was skeptical, too.  Was this a stunt?  Was Roseanne serious?  What gives?

But after reading her thoughtful responses to the Green Party’s presidential selection committee, and especially after hearing her speak at the Illinois State Green Party convention this weekend, I had to agree that Roseanne was on to something.

Think about it…her hit TV show was all about the dismantling of the American Middle Class, the final stages of which we are seeing in action now, the result of a treacherous, traitorous, 30-year old “trickle-down” economic plan.

Roseanne’s comedy has always been confrontational, and much more so than our so-called journalists and network newscasters who are fine with the corporate status quo.  We suffer through news anchors who refuse to challenge obvious and blatant lies that lead to “pre-emptive” wars, nuclear disasters, poisoned air, toxic food, polluted drinking water, an insufficient, unjust, for-profit health care system and economic collapse on a global scale.

If you think that Roseanne declaring for the presidency is weird…then you haven’t been paying attention to our current events.

So…(drumroll, please)…it is with great pride that I am able to announce our very first “Engaged Citizen,” event.

“Engaged Citizen” will host our first special event, a Rally in the Valley for Green Party presidential candidate, Roseanne Barr!

Roseanne has qualified for the California ballot on the Green Party ticket, so all of our fellow Greens will have to make up their minds about our nominee, come the June primary.

And that’s not possible until we’ve heard from all the candidates themselves.

We’re not showing favoritism, as we Valley Greens have already hosted events and raised money for Green Party presidential candidates, Dr. Kent Mesplay, (G-CA) and Dr. Jill Stein (G-MA), who were both wonderful speakers when they were here.

But after gritting our teeth over the past several months of never-ending, excruciating debates, presented by a parade of clown-car candidates from the Republican party, and after witnessing President Obama violate our Constitution in much the same way as his predecessor, the dim-witted Dubya….what
do we have to lose?

Does anyone make sense anymore?

We just want to hear what the unexpected Roseanne has to say about the mess we are on today.  This will be refreshing….and fun for those who love politics, comedy, or speaking “Truth to Power.”  She may not be as funny as
Rick Santorum or Newt Gingrich, but she will certainly make more sense than
Mitt Romney.

Guest speakers at our “Rally in the Valley” will include the beloved, Marcy Winograd, the Progressive Democratic Congressional candidate who gave the wicked, war-loving, Jane Harmon, a serious run for her corporate money in 2010, after which Winograd then turned her Progressive back on the Democratic Party and decided that she couldn’t stay with a corporate-owned political party any longer, and thus became a Green!

Green Party Congressional candidate, Michael Powelson, an anti-war, Green Party candidate from the Valley will be there.  He’s the Green who is sandwiched in-between war-loving candidates Berman and Sherman in our 30th district.  Green Party Congressional candidates, Anthony Vierya and David Steinman will also be guest speakers, with other surprises in store.

We’ll be kicking off our LA Greens Voter Registration drive this month, too, (on St. Patrick’s Day!) and raising money to send a valley delegate to the Green Party statewide General Assembly in San Francisco in May, and the Presidential Convention in Baltimore in July as well.

All political stripes are welcome, from progressive to conservative.  We’ve all been ripped off, regardless of political party, so if you are truly fed-up with Congress, then don’t pre-judge and come to our Rally in the Valley with an open mind.

We’ll be gathering at our favorite haunt, the Mayflower Club at 11110 Victory Blvd. in North Hollywood on Friday, March 23rd at 7pm sharp.  There’s a cash bar, free parking and refreshments.  RSVP to 818-912-4017.

But the main reason to attend is to hear what Roseanne Barr has to say as a presidential candidate, and then make up your own mind.  Is she for real or not?  Should we vote for her in the June primary election or not?  Let’s find out!

I’m looking forward to this, and I hope you are, too!  Help us welcome Roseanne Barr to the California Primary election of 2012 and get engaged in the game.

Become an ‘Engaged Citizen’ and join us for a Rally in the Valley like you’ve never seen before, and one that’s perfect for the strange times we are living in!

There was a time in my life when I voted for 3rd party candidates as a protest against the system, but no more. I appreciate the statement that Roseanne is making, but I'm personally horrified at the idea of a Mitt Romney being able to stack the Supreme Court even farther with Republicans. So I'm encouraging everyone I know to re-elect President Obama, warts and all.

According to FEMA, tornado season begins in March. So these "out-of-season" tornadoes were a whopping 1 day early. Wow....climate change at it's worst.
Jerry A March 06, 2012 at 01:00 AM
John S, actually tornado season arrived on schedule when you account for that this year is leap year and an extra day was added on for February.
Michael McCue March 06, 2012 at 06:01 AM
The biggest tornado outbreak on record—with 353 tornadoes over the course of just 3 1/2 days, including four F5 and eleven F4 tornadoes—occurred starting on April 25, 2011 and intensifying on April 26 and especially the record-breaking day of April 27 before ending on April 28. It is named properly, April 25–28, 2011 tornado outbreak but often called the second Super Outbreak. Previously, the record was 148 tornadoes. Increased intensity of storms and incresed frequency of storms is exactly what climate scientists have told us will occur as the planet gets warmer and warmer due to C02 emissions. Ask Fema when in the calendar year tornado season officially began, say 20 or 30 years ago, and when it would end. Like Hurricane season, tornado season has expanded to an almost year-round event, which simply was not so 20 or 30 years ago.
Michael McCue March 06, 2012 at 06:07 AM
Tornado Season used to always begin in the Spring...not Winter. Our climate is changing due to Global Warming caused by C02 emissions. We are warmer every year, every winter, which explains why tornadoes now occur in the winter, and why FEMA has changed their dates for Tornado Season, by expanding them to almost the entire calendar year. Same with Hurricane Season...it's much longer now and the hurricanes are more intense and more frequent, especially since the 1990's.

Please have Roseanne mention the Game. It's code for Occupy. This is a thought worth repeating until it is drummed into our hearts and becomes strong enough to make the change. “There are two competing games - games that end and games that don't. In the first game the rules are fixed and rigid. In the second, the rules change whenever necessary to keep the game going. It is also known as infinite game and finite game. Those who play the finite game are called business, banking, war, Wall Street, and politics as usual. Those who play the infinite game are called potlatch, tiospaye, family, samba, we pray, plant trees, tell stories, speak truth to power. People trying to keep the game going are activist, artivist, actionists, actionistas’, conservationists, librarians, teachers, agitators, organizers. The approach is concerned with the whole Earth, the entire history of the planet and all of humanity - both living now and those yet to be born.” Thank you quote by Paul Hawken

A) We need everyone to register to vote. B) While Wall Street exacted evil upon the US (fools who were brainwashed they needed a bigger house then they could afford) socialism does not work. C) The Green Party and other tiny parties take valuable votes away from the candidates who have a bigger chance of defeating...name with held.
Gayle M. Montgomery March 09, 2012 at 08:06 PM
Much agreed.
Michael McCue March 10, 2012 at 06:22 PM
General Grant said, "Never base your decisions to act on fear." If your vote is based on fear, you'll never get what you want...or what our democracy truly needs.
Michael McCue March 10, 2012 at 06:26 PM
Thank you, Lance! Your comment has reminded me that the HBO movie "Game Change" is premiering this weekend. I hear that Julianne Moore hits it out of the ball park with her portrayal of Sarah Palin. (Just having a little word fun with your comment, which I loved and will pass on...thanks again!) And yes, this blog is all about getting citizens IN THE GAME! Democracy is not a spectator sport!
Michael McCue March 10, 2012 at 06:58 PM
If the Green Party is so tiny, Holly,...then how could it affect the outcome of a national election? That seems to be contradiction. And yes, the criminal Wall Street Banksters HAVE exacted evil upon the U.S. in their ongoing mortgage fraud which has forced millions of FAMILIES to become homeless based on fraudulent paperwork. But one thing, Holly.... Why are you supporting those politicians who condone evil and who have brought no accountability to these criminals? Thousands of Occupy protesters have been arrested. How many guilty of massive mortgage fraud are in jail? Democrats are always saying that Greens cost them the election in 2000. How can that statement be true, when it is a proven fact that over 3 million Dems voted for Bush in 2000? Isn't it more correct to say that Dems cost Dems the 2000 election? Gore didn't even win his home state. The Green Party is growing in California mainly because voters have awoken to the fact that Dems and Republicans are both "owned" by the Wall Street/Multi-National Corporate Powers...they don't represent us anymore, so now independent parties are absolutely necessary if we are to have a true democracy. Voting for the lesser of two evils is still voting for evil. That's how we got here. Take a stand! Don't vote for evil! It's time for real change. The Green New Deal is coming & it won't be stopped by fearful liberals who haven't awoken from their deep slumber of denial.
Holly Hale March 10, 2012 at 07:20 PM
Michael, I said the "Green party and other tiny parties," not just the Green Party. At the risk of making you happy, let me say I find the bulk of your posting insulting. I would like to know precisely what remark I made that you interpreted as my condoning evil? If a person comments that "Wall Street exacted evil..." isn't your interpretation the opposite of the remark? My opinion: Wall Street NEVER should have been bailed and neither should GM and a variety of other irresponsible business/banking folks (and I'm being kind when I say irresponsible). Additionally, those bankers who have taken our money and still foreclosed should be in jail. The recipients of bonus money should be there, too and all funds returned. I do not believe it equal incomes for all. I do believe the rich should have countless loopholes removed so they aren't getting away with paying no taxes, rather than a higher percentage. Since you are quoting the Dems to me Michael, be very clear on this, I am NOT one of them. I am unfamiliar with the Green New Deal. If it's remotely furthering Keynesian Economics it's not for America.
Michael McCue March 10, 2012 at 07:49 PM
Thank you, Holly. It does not make me happy to learn that an "Engaged Citizen" reader feels insulted by me. No insult was intended. When we vote for incumbent Dems or Republicans who have let the Banksters get away with massive fraud and crime, we are condoning their evil. Since you stated that tiny parties "take away valuable votes" I concluded that you were not a voter who votes for independent parties. If you wish to modify that statement...great...but after eliminating the "tiny" parties, that only leaves the Dems and Republicans and neither party has done anything to create accountability for the crimes of Wall Street. My message is the same for both Republicans AND Democrats, both of whom have voters leaving to join the Green Party more than ever these days. I totally agree with you that the bankers should be in jail and their bonuses surrendered. Bravo! Greens do not believe in equal incomes for all, and we agree that that the rich should pay their fair share in taxes, which they haven't been doing for decades now.. The Green New Deal is basically a jobs program that creates millions of jobs by investing in Clean Energy manufacturing, etc...and getting our nation off our addiction to Big Oil, which is destroying our planet, and our future. I love your righteousness, Holly, and especially love the fact that you are an "Engaged Citizen." Thank you, and apologies for any offense taken.
Michael McCue March 10, 2012 at 07:52 PM
And Holly...I was just thinking about how similar your comments are to the comments made by Roseanne Barr about Wall Street. I sincerely hope that you join us for the event on the 23rd because I think you would get a kick out of it!
Holly Hale March 10, 2012 at 08:05 PM
Michael, Creating new jobs needs to be done by private enterprise, not the government. We must simply get the people of our country and the gov't off their addiction to business being run by the gov't. They have so miserably messed up our entire country with constant intrusion into business (and our personal lives) why would we ever trust them? Look at Social Security! Income taxes did not start out as funding for countless wasteful and useless agencies. SS began as optional and having an SS# was not mandatory. Stop taxing the crap out of businesses and individuals so we can invest our own money and become self sufficient because Big Brother truly does not care if you and I starve in our old ages. As far as tiny parties and the big two.....the Libertarians are becoming the most important of the independents, it seems. And I might get a kick out of the event Michael but I'm sorry, but being a classical musician my ears are very sensitive to the sounds of voices and I'm sorry to say the voice in question is like nails down a chalkboard to mine. :(
Michael McCue March 10, 2012 at 09:01 PM
Historically, whenever we were faced with a Depression (and there have been several in our history), we were able to crawl out of the hole through government spending to build our infrastructure, so we already know that government spending and/or loans to businesses will certainly help us all get out of this mess. It's been proven by our experience. Loans to American businesses literally saved our Automobile Industry, which averted a catastrophy of epic proportions. They have paid us back and are doing fine now (once they finally realized that we need energy-efficient cars!). From the 1700's until after the Civil War, tariffs on imported goods paid for 100% of our government's expenses. From Civil War to early 20th century, same import tariffs paid for about 75% of our government expenses. From WWI to WWII, import tariffs paid less than 35% of our governement expenses. Today, import tariffs pay for less than 3% of governement expenses. Import tariffs protect workers jobs and protect our home-grown American businesses from unfair competition by ultra-cheap or slave-labor markets...like China. Yes, Washington wastes our money...but more so on military spending than on anything else. We are now in a state of Perpetual War, and in an economy that could be crippled again without constant war spending. That doesn't make sense. The cap for Social Security tax is $100,000 per year, even if you are making billions. That doesn't make sense. Change that...problem solved.

Michael, I just wanted to thank you for inviting me to the "Rally in the Valley". I enjoyed the different speakers, that took the platform that night I will probably vote for any Greens that appear on my ballot, Still, Obama will more than likely get my vote for president. I don't want the Republicans to look any more powerful than they are not, if you get my drift Having the extensive theatre background that I do, I couldn't but have the great urge to offer my experience as a director to the speakers. They were all good to different degrees, but could profit from some polishing. I hope you enjoyed the CD. Dan Collins of Colony Inc. was my co-producer. I like and admire him a great deal. When Victoria asked about you I simply said, "He's Dan." The two of you could be brothers. He also played the part of the night-manager in 'Big John McMasters, and I was Lieutenant Curly White. Just to be a name dropper, Constance Gardner was performed by Jayme Mays. She is the adorable germaphobe, "Emma Pillsbury", on "Glee" Thanks again for the gracious invitation. William J.
