Becoming an Engaged Citizen: A Rally in the Valley for Roseanne Barr & Fed-Up Voters!

Independent Commentary, Opinion & Political Analysis by local activist & community organizer, Michael McCue

No one can deny that we are living in strange times.

Both Democrats and Republicans in Congress refuse to create
accountability for the sociopathic Wall Street Banksters whose ongoing, illegal
mortgage fraud caused a global financial collapse…robbed our treasury blind
with their “too-big-to-fail” bank bailouts (made possible by corporate-owned politicians in both parties)…and whose continuing fraudulent foreclosures are kicking millions of American families out of their homes and into the streets, rendering them homeless, with no consequence for the criminal banksters whatsoever….

Our corporate-owned media refuse to acknowledge that out-of-season tornadoes and killer storms are due to Climate Change Chaos caused by man-made Global Warming, and have banned the term itself from the airwaves…while F-5 tornadoes (in February!) wipe out entire American communities, the Arctic Sea melts, massive species extinction escalates, and the mean global temperature, along with our sea-levels, keeps rising …

Congress continues to subsidize Big Oil companies with literally billions of American taxpayer dollars, even though Big Oil makes historic, never-seen-before, unheard-of profits…in spite of the fact that Big Oil is in collusion with those who fund Al-Queda terrorists, as well as Wall Street sociopaths, who are manipulating oil markets to viciously gouge the American consumer at the gas pump now more than ever…

And increasingly, media viewers, desperate for the truth, are forced to turn away from corporate-owned  media to get their current events and honest political
coverage from comedians like John Stewart and Stephen Colbert…

In these strange times, there may be only one person in America who can truly speak to the irony of it all, cut through the crap, speak Truth to Power, and take a stand on behalf of our 99% of abused Americans.

Roseanne Barr is running for President of the United States on the Green Party ticket!

Now before you say something derogatory…keep in mind that I was skeptical, too.  Was this a stunt?  Was Roseanne serious?  What gives?

But after reading her thoughtful responses to the Green Party’s presidential selection committee, and especially after hearing her speak at the Illinois State Green Party convention this weekend, I had to agree that Roseanne was on to something.

Think about it…her hit TV show was all about the dismantling of the American Middle Class, the final stages of which we are seeing in action now, the result of a treacherous, traitorous, 30-year old “trickle-down” economic plan.

Roseanne’s comedy has always been confrontational, and much more so than our so-called journalists and network newscasters who are fine with the corporate status quo.  We suffer through news anchors who refuse to challenge obvious and blatant lies that lead to “pre-emptive” wars, nuclear disasters, poisoned air, toxic food, polluted drinking water, an insufficient, unjust, for-profit health care system and economic collapse on a global scale.

If you think that Roseanne declaring for the presidency is weird…then you haven’t been paying attention to our current events.

So…(drumroll, please)…it is with great pride that I am able to announce our very first “Engaged Citizen,” event.

“Engaged Citizen” will host our first special event, a Rally in the Valley for Green Party presidential candidate, Roseanne Barr!

Roseanne has qualified for the California ballot on the Green Party ticket, so all of our fellow Greens will have to make up their minds about our nominee, come the June primary.

And that’s not possible until we’ve heard from all the candidates themselves.

We’re not showing favoritism, as we Valley Greens have already hosted events and raised money for Green Party presidential candidates, Dr. Kent Mesplay, (G-CA) and Dr. Jill Stein (G-MA), who were both wonderful speakers when they were here.

But after gritting our teeth over the past several months of never-ending, excruciating debates, presented by a parade of clown-car candidates from the Republican party, and after witnessing President Obama violate our Constitution in much the same way as his predecessor, the dim-witted Dubya….what
do we have to lose?

Does anyone make sense anymore?

We just want to hear what the unexpected Roseanne has to say about the mess we are on today.  This will be refreshing….and fun for those who love politics, comedy, or speaking “Truth to Power.”  She may not be as funny as
Rick Santorum or Newt Gingrich, but she will certainly make more sense than
Mitt Romney.

Guest speakers at our “Rally in the Valley” will include the beloved, Marcy Winograd, the Progressive Democratic Congressional candidate who gave the wicked, war-loving, Jane Harmon, a serious run for her corporate money in 2010, after which Winograd then turned her Progressive back on the Democratic Party and decided that she couldn’t stay with a corporate-owned political party any longer, and thus became a Green!

Green Party Congressional candidate, Michael Powelson, an anti-war, Green Party candidate from the Valley will be there.  He’s the Green who is sandwiched in-between war-loving candidates Berman and Sherman in our 30th district.  Green Party Congressional candidates, Anthony Vierya and David Steinman will also be guest speakers, with other surprises in store.

We’ll be kicking off our LA Greens Voter Registration drive this month, too, (on St. Patrick’s Day!) and raising money to send a valley delegate to the Green Party statewide General Assembly in San Francisco in May, and the Presidential Convention in Baltimore in July as well.

All political stripes are welcome, from progressive to conservative.  We’ve all been ripped off, regardless of political party, so if you are truly fed-up with Congress, then don’t pre-judge and come to our Rally in the Valley with an open mind.

We’ll be gathering at our favorite haunt, the Mayflower Club at 11110 Victory Blvd. in North Hollywood on Friday, March 23rd at 7pm sharp.  There’s a cash bar, free parking and refreshments.  RSVP to 818-912-4017.

But the main reason to attend is to hear what Roseanne Barr has to say as a presidential candidate, and then make up your own mind.  Is she for real or not?  Should we vote for her in the June primary election or not?  Let’s find out!

I’m looking forward to this, and I hope you are, too!  Help us welcome Roseanne Barr to the California Primary election of 2012 and get engaged in the game.

Become an ‘Engaged Citizen’ and join us for a Rally in the Valley like you’ve never seen before, and one that’s perfect for the strange times we are living in!

I wish the media had countered Garcetti's claims with an examination of the facts and had exposedRead More his relationship with BIG development. Only the LA Weekly covered these stories--keep reading it and keep posting.

Oh, it was under announcements and not opinion so that is why I did not understand the post whichRead More appeared as facts.

Presumptuous? What about my "endorsement" is presumptuous. You don't really need toRead More respond😃, I just didn't understand the comment.

I attended N.H.H.S. in the mid-seventies. Mr. Reeves and Mr. Moelter were two of my favorites.Read More Loved Mr. McLeroy for Sociology.

great article Mary! Ms. Korney, she sometimes scared me to death! But always around christmas IRead More think of her and pronounce my letters clearly at the end of a word when I sing. I can still remember the song I had to sing for my final, "If ever I would leave you..." She taught me a lot. I agree with everything you said about Mr. Reeves. I had Mr. Pesin for Algebra, he did nothing to help further my math skills. The biggest flirt around, ick. We had a girl in school at the time that flirted her way to an A and hardly ever went to class. Go figure!! I also thought quite highly of Ms. Requiam. Glad she's still around.

Alex Daniels May 21, 2013 at 09:05 pm
I also notice Wendy Gruel has no platform, except taking money from special interest (most notablyRead More her puppet masters at the DWP) and having one of the most negative campaigns I've ever seen......no thanks, negative Wendy, fool me once.....Eric is our next Mayor....
Jo Perry May 20, 2013 at 08:27 pm
The signs are everywhere! Please vote for Wendy, Nora. He is also running ads about Wendy GreuelRead More that he knows are outright lies.
