Becoming an Engaged Citizen: Are Action Alerts Working?

Independent Commentary, Opinion & Political Analysis by local activist & community organizer, Michael McCue

This morning I will be at the Topanga Canyon Farmer's Market from 8 am until noon registering voters and circulating petitions for Marriage Equality, the SAFE Act, and a nominating petition for Green Party congressional candidate, David Steinman, from the 33rd district.

If you are in the area, or just want to get away for a bit, please feel free to stop by and say "hello!"This past week there has been so much happening in Washington, Sacramento and LA City Council, that it made me think about our blossoming practice of "Engaged Citizen Action Alerts."

I'm very pleased to report that my AOL/Patch editor is very quite happy with the response "Engaged Citizen" has been getting, the number of hits, etc...and, of course, the lively discussions that have been inspired by these posts.

As this blog becomes more defined, I was thinking, would our readers like me to post Action Alerts more often?  Will you follow-up and take action if I do?

How shall we measure our success with Action Alerts? Please leave a comment about how often you read Patch, or "Engaged Citizen" and if you feel that Action Alerts are a good idea.

With so much going on, I could probably come up with some sort of engaged action to take on an almost daily basis.  Is that a direction that you would like to see "Engaged Citizen" take?

Please advise...we want your input and your thoughts on this.  We want to make "Engaged Citizen" a great blog for all the communities we serve (I think over a dozen right now...) and if Action Alerts are something you will support, then we'll do it.

But do let me know.  And think about the best way we can measure the success of Action Alerts.  We need your ideas!

Thanks!
