Becoming an Engaged Citizen: Roseanne Barr's First Public Campaign Appearance This Friday!

Independent Commentary, Opinion & Political Analysis by local activist & community organizer, Michael McCue

PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE ROSEANNE BARR TO DELIVER KEYNOTE AT ‘RALLY IN THE VALLEY’ WITH LOCAL GREEN PARTY CANDIDATES

Comedian-turned-presidential-candidate Roseanne Barr, whose name will
appear on the California Primary Ballot as a Green Party candidate for
President of the United States, will be appearing at a “Rally in the Valley” for local Greens and LA-area Green Party congressional candidates, Michael Powleson, David Steinman, and Anthony Vierya.

The Green Party’s ‘Rally in the Valley’ known as, “Behold, the Greening of America!,” will take place on Friday, March 23rd at 7pm at the Mayflower Club,
located at 11110 Victory Blvd. (just west of Vineland) in North Hollywood.

Former congressional candidate, and well-known progressive, Marcy Winograd, will be a guest speaker, with Roseanne appearing as the keynote speaker for the event.

Winograd, famously challenged former Congresswoman, Jane Harman, for her seat in Congress as an anti-war progressive Democrat, but switched from the Democratic Party to the Green Party earlier this year.  She will be speaking about why she switched political parties at the event.

Roseanne Barr has been making media appearances, and speaking to Green Party General Assemblies nationwide with her populist message of economic justice and fair play for all Americans.  Roseanne has also been calling out cronyism and corruption in our political system by demanding accountability for those Wall Street criminals responsible for massive mortgage fraud, and an end to
“corporate personhood” as defined by the Supreme Court.

Her speeches before the Green Party thus far have been warmly received, and her
involvement in the presidential race has brought much-needed attention to the
independent party, known for its environmentalism, refusal to accept corporate
donations, and grassroots funding.

Other guest speakers for the rally include, Michael Powelson, a history professor from Valley College, running against Howard Berman (D) & Brad Sherman (D) in the 30th district, David Steinman, an author, publisher and consumer advocate, running against Henry Waxman (D) in the 33rd congressional district, and Anthony Vieyra, a financial analyst, running against Joe Baca (D) in the 35th congressional district.

The rally, hosted by San Fernando Valley Greens’ Events Coordinator, Michael McCue, will benefit the group’s 2012 Voter Registration Drive and assist them in sending their delegate to the statewide General Assembly in San Francisco this May, as well as the Green Party’s National Convention in Baltimore this July, where the Greens will determine their nominee for the presidential race in November.

Everyone is encouraged to attend and learn about the Green Party at the Rally.  You need not be a Green Party-registered voter to attend as the rally is open to all voters…. from progressives to conservatives…and voters of all political
stripes are welcome!

The rally admission is $20, with free parking and a cash bar.

Call 818-912-4017 or email to sfvgreens@gmail.com to RSVP
for the event as seating is limited.

The Green Party's values are a welcomed benefit to our democracy: different voices and opinions beyond the two party system that has only caused pain for the 99% of us.
tiffany smith March 21, 2012 at 07:00 pm
i hope you do run for president i know me and my friend will be voting for u cause u speak ur mind and dont take no shit!
Denise March 21, 2012 at 07:44 pm
Tiffany,
If you are old enough to vote, then you should be old enough to speak the english language properly, both grammatically & maturely, before you can ever vote. How could anyone ever take you seriously or respect you? This is what is wrong with the up and coming generation. We're doomed!
Brad March 21, 2012 at 08:51 pm
If the Green Party wants to be taken seriously, Roseanne Barr is the last person they want to be associated with. Was ANYONE paying attention when Sarah Palin was running as VP?
She is uneducated, untalented and possesses an innate white-trash quality - makes me proud to be an American. But this is exactly what the establishment wants from the Green Party - can't get out of their own way. Green must have one sharp brain trust running things.
Michael McCue March 22, 2012 at 12:14 am
Brad, you must have forgotten what happened in 2008. EVERYONE was paying attention when Sarah Palin was running as VP!
I must ask you...How can you pre-judge Roseanne's candidacy when you haven't even heard what she has to say yet? Pre-judging without the facts is Prejudice. Roseanne speaks in a populist language that everyone can understand. She is calling out the corruption of our Wall Street-owned government on no uncertain terms and she speaks forcefully when doing so, which is more than I can say for any other candidate from any other party. Join us for this event and you'll see what I mean. You're welcome to join us at the Mayflower!...but please come with an open mind and an open heart. Thanks, Brad!

Denise, that wasn't very nice.

Watch as she spits after singing our national anthem. Yeah, this is what we want for president. Saying the F word as many times possible, calling people the B word hardly qualifies one for President.
Michael McCue March 23, 2012 at 04:35 am
Speaking of vulgarity, Karen, after reading your post...that is...the one above your national anthem post, I think the pot is calling the kettle black. Please respect the etiquette rules for posting on AOL/Patch...the "f" word, the "s" word, etc...are not acceptable here, nor are they welcome. This is a family site and you've crossed the line. Try to tamp down your hatred and take a chill pill. No one's forcing you to attend our event, nor is anyone forcing you to support Roseanne. If you don't like her...that's fine. But...don't smear her based on your hate.
I can't tell you how many people are excited about hearing her speak to our Valley voters, especially when she rips into the Wall Street criminals, which she is famous for doing ever since she helped to launch the Occupy Movement at Zucotti Park last September in New York. We are going to rally for Green candidates and have a great time with Roseanne, regardless of your negative feelings. I'm sorry that you are not engaged as a respectful citizen. After all, Democracy does depend on good manners all around.

Should be an exciting night. Roseanne Barr describes herself as a reincarnated Hitler and "as the physical manifestation of the goddess Isis and the reincarnation of Cleopatra."
