So we are now half way through the summer and as a mom and teacher I have mixed feelings. But I am still trying to do some fun yet inexpensive things to do with the kids that can also be reasonably educational. I can always set them in front of the video machines and let them play for hours, but don't want to do that everyday. So yesterday, although it was rather hot, we went early to walk along the LA river on Coldwater canyon to look at the mural. At around 9:30 it was not hot and most of the path along it is shaded.Donovan and I had some nice conversations about the different times of La History, WW2 which his grandparents went through. We talked about Racism, inventions and life in general. It was fun.
Afterwards we went into burbank on Hollywood way to see this model train shop. It is on the same side of the street as Portos and has a mural of a train outside. They have a model train set up and a place with Thomas the tank engine trains to play with. Then we walked across the street to a place called Blast from the Past. Lots of super hero things and STar wars collectibles. The best part was an old vidoe machine that for a quarter you can choose to play some of the old classic Games like Centipede, GAlaga, Pacman and more. It was neat because kids these days dont know what is it like to play on the big machines. So we spent a fun dollar there.
Anyway. I think it was a nice day. And if you have more money you can go eat at Portos for lunch.
