Philip Martin Caplan, a longtime Studio City resident and camera operator for many TV shows and movies, died July 16. He was 63.
Caplan was formerly of Louisville, and was a native of Portland, Oregon.
He was born July 25, 1948 to the late Kenneth and Marjorie Caplan.
He was a graduate of Atherton High School in Louisville and graduated from UCLA School for Film & Television.
Phil became a camera operator for many films and TV shows—many of them shot in Studio City.
The list in his 45 year career included Pretty Woman, Harlem Nights, Star Trek V, the Naked Gun, Magnum P.I., St. Elsewhere, Baywatch and many more.
He was a member of the Society of Operating Cameramen.
He is survived by his cousin, Dr. Michael Covitt (Robin) of Crestwood, KY; his aunt and uncle, Ardis and Sandy Kawitt of Portland; and three cousins, Gere, Kay and Susan.
Cremation has been chosen. Arrangements have been entrusted to Herman Meyer & Son, 1338 Ellison Avenue, Louisville, KY. Expressions of sympathy may go to the donor's favorite charity.
