4 Organized Activities to Do With Your Infant

Try a stroller workout or take in a morning movie at a baby-friendly cineplex.

My little baby just turned 4 months old a few days ago. She's happy, healthy and is even starting to sleep through the night.

It's time for us to get out into the world and start socializing together. But what can a mom and her 4-month-old do together that is an organized activity? I have few friends with babies and want to meet other moms. I looked into classes—nope, the baby must be at least 18 months old.

I poked around a little more and found a few organized activities in Los Angeles that a mom and her little one can do together.

1. Monday Morning Mommy Movies

It's been so long since I've been to a movie. But the at Pacific Theaters specifically accommodate parents with young infants. There is no need to worry that your baby is crying and disrupting others, because everyone else there also will have a little one and will be understanding.

The Glendale 18, The Grove, Northridge Fashion Center 10 and Culver Stadium 12 all participate each week. Upcoming screenings include Something Borrowed, Bridesmaids and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

2. Stroller Strides

There are daily Stroller Strides classes in Sherman Oaks, Glendale, Encino and L.A.'s Griffith Park. Stroller Strides is an opportunity to get in a workout with your baby and meet other moms and exchange helpful information with them. (See Sherman Oaks Patch Editor Doug Kriegel's profile of this group ) Check the website for prices and schedules.

3. Gymboree classes

Gymboree has more than 650 locations nationwide, including one in Sherman Oaks. The Gymboree Play and Learn Level 1 class is for babies 0-6 months old.

"Explore the senses and support visual and auditory development with tummy time, flashlight play, first songs and more," the website says. "This baby class includes parent discussion time to help learn about your child's development." Check the website for prices and schedules.

4. Pump Station classes

The Pump Station, which has locations in Hollywood, Santa Monica and Westlake, offers numerous classes for mothers with infants, including baby care and infant massage. Check the website for prices and schedules.

Ivy, check out the Burbank Adult School Parent Education program (818-558-4611). They have lots of "mommy and me" and other parenting classes for infants through 4 years old. Wonderful program. You don't have to be a Burbank resident to enroll. They go on the school calendar, so classes are almost done for this year, but they may have some summer classes. I took all my kids through the program, and we had a great time. I still have friends from that program from twenty years ago!
