Dog Attack

I wanted to make the community aware of a unprovoked attack by an akita to our 7 year old son.  It happened on December 30, 2013, right in front of our driveway.  The owner said the dog was friendly and when my son walked up to him, he went right for my sons neck and chest and then took a chunk of his arm out.  He had to have 40 some stitches, even muscle had to be stitched and one of the puncture wounds came close to collapsing his lung.  We live in colfax meadows and the owner lives in the area too.  There are a lot of kids in this area and I hope this never happens to anyone else.  If you see an Akita, please stay away.

Thank you for this warning. I walk and bicycle through Colfax Meadows on a near-daily basis. Hopefully, the owner(s) keep the dog restrained at all times.

Thanks for sharing, Kimberly. I hope your son and family are recovering okay from this incident.

I hope your son and your family recovers from this horrible event. I will never allowed my sons to go near anyone's dog as children. And even with our own, never ever put faces or get over zealous.....this is a terrible story and I feel as if your son is still wondering what and why this happened to him. My best wishes, John

That is horrendous. I hope you reported it to animal control. Of course they always need the last name of the dog's owner. I would put up signs until the person is found.
