Labrador is Up for a Adoption at Shelter

Many people are expected in.

A line is expected to form at the Baldwin Park animal shelter Monday, when a that made worldwide headlines for its loyalty will be placed for adoption.

The black lab is now named Grace by shelter workers. She was photographed standing guard in a busy La Puente street last week, next to the body of a yellow lab that had been struck and killed in heavy morning commute traffic.

A passing good Samaritan spotted the black lab on Hacienda Boulevard, and placed traffic cones around it and the dead animal in the street. The passerby called animal control workers, then took photos and video.

Los Angeles County animal control workers retrieved the dead dog and the black lab, then sent the photos to a wire service. The story and photos have since moved animal lovers around the world.

Six people have already asked to adopt Grace, and the dog will be awarded to "the first person who comes in and starts the paperwork on the animal" according to a shelter worker, who identified herself only as Erika today.
