'Understanding The Fall' - Part 5
My name is Sally
I live on my own
My brand new apartment
I pick up the phone.
I woke bright and early
And baked a fresh pie
Apples and cherries
The smell fills the sky.
The doorbell rings
And I let her come in
"Welcome to my home, mom
How long it has been."
She enters and sits
A smile appears
"My painting of geese..."
Her eyes fill with tears.
Soon we are talking
Laughing and eating
Pie and ice cream
Time is so fleeting.
I give her a hug
She whispers in my ear
"Thank you, Sally...
Thank you, my dear."
I now understand
My mom and The Fall
Two women in one
I can love them all.
So I spread the word
To others in need
There is hope, there is joy
There's mint ice cream, indeed.
THE END....
AND THE BEGINNING.
So, there it is. My book. I am so grateful to the men and women, young and old, who have helped me to understand that alcoholism is a disease. Who have shared their own experience, strength and hope with me. If this book helps one person feel not so alone, ashamed, confused, angry and sad... I will have been of service.
My mother is the bravest woman I know. She is my best friend and hero. At 80 years old my mother is sober today. Her courage inspires me daily.
Thank you for taking this journey with me this week. The emails and comments that have been coming in have truly confirmed that taking a risk this week, doing something different, sharing my story... was so worth it.
