70-Year-Old Man Struck by Driver in Studio City

Police arrest suspect in hit-and-run incident.

A man in his 70s who was getting out of his vehicle was struck by a hit-and-run driver and seriously injured in Studio City Friday and a suspect was later taken into custody, authorities said.

It happened about 2:20 p.m. near Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Valleyheart Drive, just north of Ventura Boulevard, Los Angeles police Officer Brandon Jeon said.

The victim, whose condition was not immediately available, was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Jeon said.

One person was taken into custody, he said.

The man, who underwent surgery and was in critical condition but expected to survive, was hit as he was getting out of his vehicle, police told CBS2, which reported that the suspect was detained a short time and a few blocks from the crash scene.
