Donors Step Up for Families of Good Samaritans

A fundraiser will help cover the ambulance costs of two women killed and others injured last week while trying to helped a crashed motorist in Valley Village.

Fundraising efforts have secured enough donations to cover the paramedic fees of two women electrocuted and others injured Aug. 22 while rushing to rescue a , LA City Councilman Paul Krekorian announced Thursday.

Speaking at Magnolia Boulevard and Ben Avenue, the site of the crash, Krekorian said "sufficient funds" were raised for the families of Stacey Lee Schreiber, 39, and Irma Zamora, 40, both killed when they came into contact with water that mixed with downed power lines as a result of the crash.

The Los Angeles Fire Department billed to citizens, but did not follow through because it would go against municipal policy.

Krekorian thanked the community for stepping up and donating, about $10,000, KPCC reports, for the families of Zamora, Schreiber and the other five people who were injured.

"It will be a burden that none of the families would have to bear," he said. "We're going to go further than that in order to try to address the many needs that these families may have."

Donations can still be made online, by phone and by mail. More details are included below.

Barbara Kausch, Schreiber's mother, flew in from Colorado to speak about her daughter's final actions. Kausch said her daughter recently wrote a poem titled  Comfort Zone and related it to her bravery.

"Stacey never thought of her own comfort zone in those last few minutes, she simply thought of saving the life of fosmeone else," Kausch said, adding: "That night she ran from her comfort zone and was made a hero by her actions."

The driver of the crashed vehicle was Armen Samsonian, 19, of Glendale. The crash is still being investigated.

If it was found that the driver who caused the crash was racing another vehicle, he should pay all costs to cover the medical issues...It's disgusting to think anyone would ask their family to pay anything, including the ambulance company...Remind me not to use their services in case I have a need...by the way, I am in the medical profession!
