Starting today, law enforcement personnel will be out in force during the Memorial Day weekend and maintain a sharp lookout for motorists driving while impaired or violating other traffic laws, including a DUI checkpoint in Studio City Saturday.

The California Highway Patrol will conduct a maximum enforcement period from 6 p.m. today through 11:59 p.m. Monday, said CHP Officer Francisco Villalobos. All available officers will be deployed during the effort.

Additionally, numerous law enforcement agencies participating in the Avoid the 100 DUI Task Force will set up DUI/driver's license checkpoints throughout the county and conduct DUI saturation patrols, organizers said.

Stepped-up law enforcement activities will begin today and continue through Monday. Police officials urge motorists to avoid drinking and driving and to refuse to enter a vehicle driven by someone who has been drinking.
