A 10-year-old yellow Labrador was taken when a car was stolen from in front of Kriser's pet store in Studio City on Saturday. Police are hoping that witnesses can help find the dog.
The local family is devastated since their minivan was stolen Saturday near Whitsett Avenue and Ventura Boulevard.
Nayo Mateo left the car running, and left the air conditioner to retrieve his wife and 2-year-old daughter from inside a store.
A thief jumped into the van and took off, probably unaware the dog was inside.
Maru is a sweet, quiet dog. The family is worried, the daughter keeps asking about Maru. Police haven't seen the car nor dog after a long search on Sunday.
The car is a dark blue Honda Odyssey minivan with California license plate No. 6FLL546.
Maru has tags and is microchipped.
According to Cheryl Hanna at Pet Rescue Examiner (http://www.examiner.com/article/california-family-desperate-to-find-dog-after-car-was-stolen-near-pe...) the local Mutt Match L.A. volunteers were running an adoption day at the pet store when the distraught owner rushed into the store hoping there were cameras which might have videoed the carjacking. The organization has offered to help, and by Sunday evening are hoping to be able to raise money to offer as a reward for the safe return of Maru.
According to Mutt Match:
Why am I doing this? Because if my dog was stolen I would hope someone would help me. They do not have the contacts I have or the experience, and what good are either if I can't use them?
The family just wants their dog back - no questions asked. If anyone has seen Maru, please contact Mutt Match L.A. Contact information is as follows:
