Man Gets 3 Years for Painting 'Kill Jews' Outside Valley Business

A 49-year-old man who painted anti-Semitic graffiti on a fence and trash bin outside a Van Nuys plumbing business was sentenced today to three years in jail.

Amos Hason was convicted of three vandalism and hate crime counts, according to the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office.

In two separate April incidents, video surveillance identified Hason driving to the location and painting swastikas and anti-Semitic graffiti on the rear fence and trash bin outside the business, authorities said.

The graffiti included the message "Adolf was right. Kill Jews!" with a swastika at the end, authorities said.

"Hate crimes will not be tolerated in this city and my office will continue to take swift and decisive action whenever these incidents occur," City Attorney Mike Feuer said.

Hason has been prosecuted twice -- in 2008 and 2013 -- by the City Attorney's Office in weapons cases.

Hason, who has been jailed since his May 3 arrest, is due back in a Van Nuys courtroom next Tuesday in a case filed in May by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, charging him with three felony weapons-related counts.
