UPDATE: This incident was originally reported as taking place on the 101 Freeway.
The coroner's office has released the name of a man who jumped out of a vehicle Saturday on the Hollywood (170) Freeway and was struck by a vehicle and killed.
Carlos Sanchez, 38, of North Hollywood, was identified as the deceased.
It happened about 4:20 p.m. on the southbound Hollywood Freeway north of the Ventura (134) Freeway, said California Highway Patrol Officer Heather Calda, who investigated the incident.
Sanchez was in the right front passenger seat of the 2003 Toyota driven by Sara Burton, 37, of Los Angeles, Calda said.
"For an unknown reason, Mr. Sanchez exited this vehicle while the vehicle was moving," she said.
"Mr. Sanchez collided with the roadway surface and at some point entered the Number 2 lane of SR-170 southbound directly into the path of a van driven by Reyna Ortega," Calda said. "Reyna Ortega was unable to avoid a collision and struck Mr. Sanchez."
Sanchez man was pronounced dead at the scene. A SigAlert was ordered for the Number 2 lane for three hours for the investigation, said CHP Officer Monica Posada in the Traffic Management Center.
