UPDATE: Massage Parlor and Liquor Store Burn [See Exclusive PHOTOs & VIDEO]

The blaze occurs at the business that displays the anti-Krekorian signs.

A fire at about 11 p.m. Sunday damaged a liquor store and a massage parlor near the corner of Moorpark Street and Laurel Canyon Boulevard. No one was injured.

Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles City Fire Department said it took 34 minutes for 55 firefighters to put out the blaze at 4407 N. Laurel Canyon Blvd.

That is the site of Laurel Park Liquors and the Oasis Thai Spa, where signs criticizing Los Angeles City Councilman Paul Krekorian and city officials are stored in the back.

Fire officials are investigating the fire, which at one point in the scanner reports was described as a "stubborn fire" as flames came through the roof. Arson investigators, who said the fire started in the attic above the spa, were searching through the 100-square-foot area on Monday.

The fire started in the massage parlor in the north part of the building, said Battalion Chief Randy Beaty. City News Service reported that Beaty said the flames were largely contained to the massage parlor, but the fire extended slightly into the liquor store next door.

A manager sweeping out the liquor store said the fire officials told him the store would have to remain closed during the investigation, but that the liquor store did not sustain much damage. Smoke poured into the shop through the ceiling from the neighboring spa, he said. The shop is expected to open again within a week.
