An intimate, quiet memorial was held in Griffith Park over the weekend in honor of Gretchen Corrales, who was found shot to death on Nov. 16.

Said one friend, who asked not to be identified, "It was beautiful. About 100 friends attended the memorial tree ceremony in honor of Gretchen."

Corrales, a graduate of North Hollywood High School and a former All-American track star and coach at California State University Los Angeles, was 53. She had also lived in Studio City, where her sister lives and is now taking care of Corrales's 9-year-old twins. Corrales’ estranged husband, Gilberto Corrales, a former professional boxer, was arrested in connection with the homicide on Saturday in South Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles police.

The ceremony was held at Amir's Garden, a place that "Gretchen loved and liked to hike up to," said the friend who attended the service.

There was a memorial 5K run and tree planting for her. See some of the photos above.
