Police Ask Studio City Residents to be on Lookout for Mail Thieves

One recent mail theft occurs at Studio City apartment complex at Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Valley Spring Lane.

Los Angeles police believe a man and a woman are using a master key to gain access to Studio City buildings and mailboxes, reports CBS2.

Recent survelliance footage shows the duo committing the federal crime at an apartment building at Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Valley Spring Lane.

After allegedly stealing the mail, the two went to the apartment complex's garage and took the registration and insurance information from a resident’s SUV. Officials believe the duo could have gotten the master key from a postal employee or have been hired themselves as seasonal workers.

If you recognize the two in the attached video, you are urged to call the LAPD.

This is not the first time a master key to mailbox has been in the hands of mail thieves. It happened about 3 or 4 years ago as several of the buildings we serviced were victims then and it covered more than Studio City. For buildings that have postal master lock in intercom system ( not a key keeper) we can install a timer switch which will disable use of postal key after the hour you choose. We at Flam's and Delta Mailbox sales also encourage the post office to install Medeco high security postal locks. We are also seeing it happen in areas of Los Angeles where they punch out the postal lock, take it to someone who can decode the postal key and Voila!
