A 35-year-old Santa Monica man was killed when he was struck by a hit-and-run motorist in Studio City, police officials said today.
The incident occurred at about 11:45 p.m. Saturday on Ventura Boulevard at Fairway Avenue, said Sgt. Bill Kelly of LAPD's Valley Traffic Division.
The victim "appeared to have been intoxicated," as he sat on the curb on Ventura Boulevard and tried to eat a sandwich, then got up and tried to cross Ventura outside of the crosswalks on either corner, Kelly said of witness accounts.
"He was struck by an eastbound white Mercedes and carried almost 100 yards --about a football field," the sergeant said.
The man had walked about 100 yards and "was carried back to where he had dropped his sandwich," Kelly said.
The Mercedes continued eastbound on Ventura without stopping, he said.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, Kelly said.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Detective Fredo at (818) 644-8037.
