UPDATE: Sinkhole Slows Traffic on Riverside Drive

UPDATE: As of 2:30 p.m., the inspection had not been done by city officials and the crews have not yet resealed the street.

The morning commute was interrupted in North Hollywood after a sinkhole opened up on Riverside Drive.

The section in Valley Village between Whitsett Avenue and La Maida Street on Riverside Drive continues to be closed when a water valve leak caused a 15-by-5-foot sinkhole in the two westbound lanes, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.

The cause of the sinkhole was repaired by 3 a.m., according to a Department of Water and Power spokesman, but crews are awaiting city inspectors before completing road repairs.

“It was caused by an eight-inch water valve leak,” said Albert Rodriguez. “(Department of) Public Works is going to be inspecting the repair because it is near a bridge over the L.A. River.”
