Studio City Woman Nearly Carjacked Close to CBS Studios, Suspect Caught

UPDATE: By noon, the suspect was apprehended and identified by the woman.

A Studio City woman was nearly carjacked this morning a block away from the CBS Studios lot, and Los Angeles Police are in the area looking for a suspect.

"It was terrifying and I am convinced that if I didn't have my passenger side door locked, he would have jumped in," the woman told Studio City Patch.

The victim called 911 immediately and filed a report. She is uninjured and asked her name not be used.

The incident took place in mid-morning on Valleyheart and Laurel Canyon Boulevard as she was driving from her home. The suspect was sitting along the Los Angeles River.

The woman described the suspect as a Hispanic youth about 18 to 20 years old where a black sweatshirt. She said he had a teardrop tattoo near his eye and "looked like a gangbanger."

The youth approached the car and "tried to jump in the car," she said. "I was scared to death."

She added, "I think that you should know about this and alert people about it in case they see this guy."

Patch has contacted Studio City Senior Lead Officer Mike Lewis to find out if there have been other reports like this in the area. The Los Angeles Police patrol officers are on the scene now looking for a suspect matching that description.
